Today is Wednesday, the 9th of July, and we’re going to do this first potato reveal. I’ll show you a plant, and then I’ll explain why I hope I’m going to get something from it. That is the plant. And you can see it’s not in a very good state. The plant is definitely dying back. All the foliage has gone yellow. And normally when the folage starts to go yellow, that’s when it’s time to empty the containers. And it’s not really a big container either. The reason I’m a little bit dubious about this particular container is that it’s a Charlotte second early plant and they take 13 to 15 weeks to reach maturity. But because we’ve had such bad winds over the last few weeks, that plant has took quite a battery and that’s why it started to die back and it’s only just 11 weeks. So fingers crossed we’ll still get something from it. I’m going to put down this tarp all in. So when we empty that container, we can collect up the compost after. Then there’s no mess. So first thing to do is just cut away this folage. And just in case you’ve got traces of early blight on your plants, make sure you put this in a bag and bin it. Don’t put it into your compost bins. So, having done that, we’ll just empty it and hope for best. It’s actually very wet this, but it’s because it’s been so sunny. But the good news is we can actually see potatoes already. I’m not open for a lot after only 11 weeks. So, we’ll take that root part away and then let’s dig in. Well, I can see we’ve got potatoes already. So, at least we know we’re not getting nothing. They’re not huge, but I never expected that. But it looks like we’ve got some really nice salad potatoes there. So, while we’re digging through, I’ll just pop them into this sie. They’re not a bad size, to be fair. And there is quite a lot. And I’m even keeping these tiny ones cuz they’re really nice. That is what’s left of the seed potato. Just the skin. And as we dig in a little bit more, we’re starting to see even more results. I’m actually quite surprised after only 11 weeks. That’s a really good size one. And even at this stage, we’re still getting more. I think this is a really good result. Look at all those potatoes from this little container. Move some of this compost out of way just in case we’ve miss one. I think that might be as locked. [Music] We can also save this compost and use it again. As you can see, it’s perfectly good. So, there we go. Now, that is a sight for sore eyes. Amazing. As always, I’m going to give them a quick weight. You can get these really cheap online, just a few pounds. But I do like to measure the weight of all those harvests. So, I’ll get me in this bag. I’ll just get them a quick wash with pipe. But these potatoes have got no damage on them whatsoever. I think we’ve got a good couple of meals coming out of this. The longer it takes to put these potatoes in this bag, the happier I am. I think we’ve had a great result. Really nice bag of potatoes there. But what do they weigh? Should make sure that’s reset to zero. and then we’ll find out. Just get a little time to settle. So, there you go. 3.44 lb of potatoes. That is amazing. I must admit that is a better result than I was hoping for. Amazing little potatoes. And these charlott can get twice this size if they’re left a bit longer. But because that plant’s dying back, it really wasn’t worth doing that. There’s also a chance that sloohs can get to your potatoes, especially if you leave them too long. But for 11 weeks in a very small container, that is more than I could have hoped for. We’ve got another five containers to go out yet. So hopefully as we get towards the end of July, we’re going to empty one or two more and get even better results. But three and a half pound of potatoes, I think, is definitely a result. If you want to see what else we get out of these potato containers, then please hit that subscribe button, press that notifications bell, and I’ll see you on the next one. Enjoy the sunshine.

nice harvest ivan! I'm not sure whether to pull my first early potatoes up, they seem to be still green. yet I believe I should be pulling them up around now….
should I still pull them up despite the plant being green, or just lease it for now?
Brilliant result Ivan
I keep eyeing ours up, not died back yet but I want to see the spuds that’s grown 😂
5:50 I got one for weighing parcels, less than £4 from Amazon
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 well done Ivan! 7:22
Wow! What a lot from a small container, hope mine do as well. Strawberries and tomatoes started to appear up here in Scotland, didn't get anything last year.
Fantastic result Ivan, did they have any flowers on them I had loads of flowers on mine
Brilliant Ivan, that's what you call a result. Thanks for sharing.
From such a small pot, that's a great return of good clean spuds. I bet they're tasty too. As I just grow for myself, I don't tend to weigh stuff. I count the portions I've had. Either way, it's encouraging and helpful.
Fab result Ivan. Your whole container garden is doing so well. I still use your tomato sauce recipes and freezing whole tomatoes that i learned from you. Takes ages to scroll through old videos but well worth it. Can't wait for more news as season progresses. 👍
Ivan, a while ago I commented that I'd used mini Actimel type yoghurt pots for seedlings. I cut the base off at 1 inch (2.5 cm ish) then inverted the top section into it. It worked great. I used them for bedding plants. There was enough soil for growth, and the wide neck of the pot, now upside down, meant I could easily push the plug out without root disturbance. And the lower section acted as a cache-pot and mini reservoir so the seedlings stayed moist but not too wet. Cut off nearer the base, they did well for deeper rooting seedlings. Now they're washed and stored for next year's use, and will go into the recycling when they're finally fettled. Thought I'd just update you on that. Cheers.
I harvested some last weekend, or should I say my granddaughter did, I was really happy with them, they were Swift, Charlotte needs harvesting soon. Nice harvest Ivan..
Amazing I wana give it a go 2
Which ones could I grow now ?? I'm in belfast thanks
Thanks Ivan, that's a lovely harvest of spuds. Take care and all the best. Stevie
I’m so impressed with the amount of potatoes from that one small container👍
Unbelievable, well done. Great crop in just 11 weeks.
Amazing result from such a small container, and after only 11 weeks, well done.
Wow Ivan you've got a massive crop out of that small pot. Amazing 😊
Amazing haul ❤
There’s something incredibly calming and practical about this video — it’s like a personal guide for anyone starting their garden journey.
But I couldn’t help but notice that YouTube might not be fully understanding the value packed inside it.
A few subtle tweaks in how the video is presented (title, tags, and description) could make a huge difference in reach.
If you’re curious how your video could naturally attract more viewers — just reply. I’d be glad to share what I see 🌱
That was a great harvest from one container, how many seed potato did you put in there?
They look perfect Ivan! I’m imagining them drizzled in butter with a nice bit of carvery ham and a salad, yum yum
Wow that's a harvest from the small pot at 11 week s. Nice
Brilliant. Good Job 👍
Nice amount of potatoes. I think some tiny potatoes were still in the roots that you put back into the pot. If so, will they produce more potatoes for you?!
I love growing my own potatoes, they taste incredible compared to store bought.
I wish I could grow potatoes! Is there a taste difference in the size of the potatoes?
