People with an interest in flower or vegetable gardening are encouraged to become Alabama Extension Master Gardeners. After going through a 16-week on-line training, in-person labs and completing 50 hours of community service, participants will be Alabama Extension Master Gardeners. They will then have the opportunity to join a local Master Gardener Association. Lawrence County’s Master Gardener Association (LCMGA) is very active in programs through schools and other venues. The training includes sessions on soils, insects, plant identification, water management, plant diseases and landscape design more.
The registration dates for Spring 2026 are November 1st – December 12th with the cost of Early Bird registration at $150 (November 1–15). The Regular registration is $175 (November 16–30); with Late registration at $200 (December 1–12). The Class Orientation is January 22, 2026. The class dates are February 5 – April 30, 2026. The following counties are hosting the labs (subject to change): Baldwin, Calhoun, Coffee, Houston, Jefferson, Lauderdale, Lee, Madison, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, and Walker. The two locations for potential Lawrence County Master Gardeners are Lauderdale (Florence) and Madison (Huntsville) County.
