We've recently moved to a house with several mature Pinus Radiata. They're 20-30m tall, and over 1m in diameter at the base.

The previous owners were doing some earthworks, and buried the base of three trees in up to 1m of topsoil. This would have been about a year ago.

I've had a digger removing the soil back to original ground level. I'd like to save the trees.

The bark where they were buried seems fairly intact, and not overly soft or rotten. Definitely softer than higher up, but still very firm. No real sign of fungus to my eye. Photos are after a couple of hours of work – there's more to remove.

Keen for opinions on whether the trees will recover. And, is there anything I can do to help improve their chances?
