Hi all, moving to a new house in the next month. The garden is an okay size considering its location, but the garden is extremely sloped towards the rear.
Would a novice be able to tier something with some sleeping retaining walls with this slope, or would I need to worry about a bit more.
Thanks!

Any other suggestions of what to do with the garden would be great too!
Hey you can use platform like [reimaginehome.ai](http://reimaginehome.ai) to visualise the backyard. I have created basic visualisation for you but not able to attach the photo here. I dont think so you need professional designer, but yes hire good contractors who could help you execute once you have the design ready
Sledding in the winter will be belter. Have a year with it and see how you feel.
Generally, if you need one wall taller than 4ft OR multiple tiered walls, you should hire a structural engineer.
What do you plan on putting in the yard? If you want a patio, trees, or shed type items, then definitely get professional help. If you’re just putting in grass or a vegetable garden, then I’d DIY a few staggered walls.
I think the trees would help with the runoff. Their root system would hold the dirt there. The retaining wall would just modernize the space. I’m wondering about how much water collects by the house because of the slope. I would dig a hole and add a French drain in the lowest part of the yard, then make a water garden around it. You can add pavers on the otherside for seating or an outdoor craft area
