Hi all! I have this space I’m looking for some ideas on how to fill. I previously had tall fescue which I tried and failed from seed it looked awful and was clumpy, etc. thinking about artificial turf but know that can be costly when done properly. I am in the Sacramento area so long dry summers. I’d like something low growing and minimal maintenance once established. I was thinking possibly some variety of sedum but I am overwhelmed with the options. I’d consider full clover as well as it would be nice to have something that can handle foot traffic but not a requirement. The soil quite frankly is pretty awful and rocky so something that can handle less than desirable soil would be great too thank you!

Calscape.org should be where you start. Garden planner, plant info, map/list of native plant nurseries. Sacramento has a lot of good options. UC Davis Arboretum will also be holding their big plant sale soon.
If you want something low growing, go with Bee’s Bliss sage. Just whatever you do, don’t do landscape fabric or rock mulch.
