The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Wyoming County return to Tunkhannock Public Library to offer the beginner vegetable gardening program Seed to Supper this fall.
Five classes, scheduled on Wednesday evenings Oct. 15, 22, 29, and Nov. 5 and 12, cover practical, low-cost techniques in vegetable gardening fundamental topics: Planning Your Garden, Getting Started with Healthy Soil, Planting Your Garden, Caring for Your Growing Garden, and Harvesting Your Bounty. All classes will be held in the Community Room at the Tunkhannock Public Library, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Seed to Supper’s goal is to help build a more food-secure community by providing adult gardeners with the knowledge and encouragement to learn how to grow a portion of their own food on a limited income. Trained Master Gardener volunteers will instruct and demonstrate techniques for planning, planting, maintaining, and harvesting a budget-friendly vegetable garden.
The program is free but advance registration is required as space is limited. Participants will receive a 150-page Seed to Supper coursebook, vegetable, herb, and flower seed packs, and seed starting mix.
To register, contact the Tunkhannock Public Library at 570-836-1677 or visit the library during regular business hours.
