Local creek specimens, newly made today. Keeping outside, so I devised a heat exchange system with minimal external interaction. One glass tube is short and for relieving pressure and hot air. The other is longer and acts as a conductive heat exhange between the external environment and water. Either one can be sealed, but I am leaving them open for the moment.

    Great start!

Any idea what kind of plants those are?

Couple of things. Don’t complicate things.

The only different sealing it up makes with an aquatic jar is to keep fly and mosquito larvae to escape into the house and keep water from evaporating.

The air quality doesn’t make much of a difference (it does in a terrestrial setup tho) as long as there’s enough air space for the gas exchange.

Definitely no need to keep it outside or keep it vented.

I would remove a little bit of water too to provide a wider surface area to help the gas exchange and provide more room for critters to get air.
