[Music] [Applause] Hey. Anyway, [Music] let’s do it. [Music] Another big boy. I think too much. [Music] What you doing? [Music] Come on. [Music] Whoa. [Music] So, um, back at Stefan and Karen’s place. Uh, just given them a hand to put the roof on. Now that they’ve built all the, uh, wooden structure, got the walls up, everything’s looking hunky dory. We’ve cut the front of the ver off so it um yeah, it matches the roof sheets basically. Sheets are 9.45 m long. Uh I’m just going to show you how we put one on in time lapse. [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh, [Music] hey. [Music] So there we go, Guys, roof on. Building watertight. Well, as far as as far as coming from above. Uh, obviously need the clouding the side, the windows and everything now, but the roof’s on. So, work can continue in the shade. Cool. Uh, 7 hours work. Should have been six. I uh I made a major up. hit one of those measure twice, cut once moments. I um on the other side I I started with 100 mil overhang instead of 400. Uh cuz they’ve got another 150 mil of insulation going on the outside of here. So yes, I messed up and had to move the whole roof 300 mil that way. Uh it only took it took an hour. Um, there’s still places here that need screwing down. And this panel got damaged in transport, but it’s still okay on the top, so it’ll be fine. Yeah, looking good. So, yeah, the um the reason I’m here today is cuz the the guys finished the stonework around the top, all the way around, and all the way down the back as well. And you can see I put the roof on as square as I could to the boundary of the building. And you can see how much out square the actual building is here. Um, and especially you pick up this light in here where it’s built in and then the rafter comes in here. So this this building’s a bit more like a diamond shape than anything else. Cool. So, uh, Saturday morning. don’t usually work on weekends for people, but I’m here with Luke and uh we’re going to have a go at, you saw in his video. Last week, we made the arch, broke the arch through. I’m just going to have a go at removing this um awkward stone at the bottom here. This was supporting all this, but now we filled in here. Should be fine. So, that one can can that one can go. And we’re going to have to make something to fit in here and possibly here. make it pretty, beautify it a bit. So, that’s what we’re doing today. So, we are here today with Luke and we’re gonna attempt to put three more of these frames up all screwed together and fixed into the edge of the um raised bed, which is what we want. And uh we’re going to do some acrobatics because we have to somehow get up there and screw things together. Should be great fun. So, what I’m hoping to do is uh I’m going to knock a hole in in the in here because these are hollow blocks, as you can see. So, I’ll knock a hole there. I’m trying to accommodate this into there and then I’ll concrete it in just to make sure it um hang to make sure it’s fixed basically. I’m not sure if they’ll go in the hole. We can but try but I think they’ll go. And then this tube on the front should sit sort of along the edge of this wall. And then I can occasionally clamp that down as well if we need to. Although saying that it probably won’t catch a lot of wind, but we’ll give it a go. So we need to lift both of these together. Okay. Pop this in that hole. Yeah. Into here. Yeah. You have another hole there or No, I don’t know where it is. Should have bought a tape from me. [Music] The joint right on the joint. Is that what I call sod law? Uh, you want to move it one up or hang on in tight there? Yeah, I can move a tiny bit. That’s it. Oh, it just missed. Yeah. Sweet. Lift it up again. So you can break it. Yeah. This way where it was on there. That’s cabbage you got planted there. This is cauliflower. Collie. These we we were given cuz they were all they were what’s left in the pack and they’re all eaten by something or whatever. Really scabby. But they gave us a 30 of them. So we just planted them there. This is a they’re starting to come. a wicking or no this the front ones are then that’s a wicking bed. We’re going to make that one a wicking bed and this one up to well as far as we can. Yeah. Here for now while these are growing. Try again. So we’ve had a bit of an issue here and we have to uh yeah shutter that up. But that works, doesn’t it? Uhhuh. Is that one light in? Now it is now. Cool. So, what we have to do is get that end where we think square is to here. I think it’s got to go I’d say a little bit that way, wouldn’t you? But have a look from here. What do you think? What do you think? Yeah, that one’s definitely bent the first part of the pole there. But it’s also okay about right there, isn’t it? I think so. Maybe a bit this way. Uh, that’s no less. start doing. Wait, let’s say about there. Yeah, maybe a bit more. I don’t know. It’s close. There’s that. [Music] I’m not looking back. It’s all your fault. Okay. So, we got to put these on and this one in between to keep in the right distance. So, we can put this on first. No, I would imagine. Are you ready? Go. Oh, hang on. Oh, no. Come on. Come on. Okay, first off, I have to get a hammer. Oh, yeah. Mine’s bent over. Is yours on? Yeah. Yeah. It’s not cuz I’m better. No, it’s cuz mine isn’t bent, right? You hold it up. Oh, yeah. See this little? Yeah. Yeah. Got it. Yep. bent to your fingers. Hey, nice. So, yeah, we didn’t have to say worrying about moving this because it’s tied. E. Yeah, it’s the distance is there. I think you need to come this way a little bit if you need to lift that just a tiny bit. If I push this in the ground now, you want to jump on this pose with me. There you go. Uh, suppose I’ll get a bar. We have to pre-make that hole. It seems like it’s maybe too far out as well. Is it like or it can’t be, can it? A little bit. Little bit of clay, you know. Yeah, it would be better. The more we put on, the better it will get, I think. Uhhuh. True. So, to stop the uh stop all this falling apart, I’m going to use I’m going to use these little tech screws with a little drill bit on the end. And uh just drill through where they’re connected onto the the other section. Something like that. You managed. Yay. So mixed. Can you hold that? Yeah. At the moment. Quite flimsy this ladder. Yeah. What’s this bro? It’s not meant to not meant to carry this weight. This much weight. Still not as bad as mine. So I had everything held together with um tape with tape classic which is you know probably not the best. It’s fine. There’s only well we just we just tried it out to see if what it would look like etc. Honest I mean if you want to stick something together it’s gaffa tape and if you want to take stuff apart it’s WD40. You know that’s about it. So you see this has got to come that should [Music] go. We’ll do one on the other side. This is where it gets a bit complicated. These are a slower bend than those. That’s the middle. No. No. Oh, no. So, each end has a sharp bend. See that? And then we have two uh slow bends. Okay. And then a sharp bend. So sharp each end. Just stand this more upright. So this one first. So no one press. I thought this one was No, these are short. Oh, the but the bottoms are those. Okay. See the difference? Yeah. Yeah. So we were one of these first. And then and then two of these. Is it two or three? Two. One. One. Two. Yeah. There’s four rips in each. Yeah. Okay. Right. So, you need one of these. How tall are you? Yes. Easy peasy. No ladder. These tomatoes are cment viv. No, no. We bought these from the UK. Really? They’re exactly the same. The seeds are they’re called They’re delicious. They’re the same. They have them here. You know that brand, right? We got them the best. Sienna, they serve cedas. Yeah. The thing is what we’re doing, we got a we used the chicken lo Like you said, the more you add, the more steady it’s going to get. Eh. Yeah. So, we need to get rid of that. [Music] Yeah. Then we can tell where this is going to go. Yep. So, chisel. Oh, again. Right on the joint. You want to change the length? Change the poles. No, it’s not. That’s the short one. Oh, no. You’re right. Sorry. Sorry. I’ll do I’ll drill that down here there. That’s what I wanted for. That’s good. As long as it fits in there, I think so. Bit more. Come on. So, you don’t attach the middle thing to it. Huh? You attach the middle to it. No. No. This side? No. No. I have to get on the ladder to put the next piece on, don’t I? Okay. Hold on. Ah, in fact, no. Hold on. Let me jump up here. I think I think we need a ladder now. On that end? No. For there even. You can’t get tall enough, can you? High enough. Dodgy. Someone knows that. All right. You need the foot. Hold on. This one. [Music] I don’t think we could do this all all in one go. Do you know? I think you’ve tried anyway. No. Very good. Right. So, I’ll have to wait here. No, I’ll pass you another blunt one. Yeah, but you might have to put a ladder on that end, Luke. Cuz you’ll be up that high. See? You I reckon we just do two cuz at least this is on the ground now. We’ll put two together. Yeah. Okay. Okay. So, this [Music] one of these. Hey. Huh? Let’s try you a foot. Oh, you have one. Okay. Hey, Luke. Good plan, man. Yeah. Yeah, that’s working. Get down. Now we get down and put in these. We put this in and drill it in. Yeah. And put the bottom in. Awesome. Almost looks like we know what we’re doing. and push it in. Push it in. That’s it. There you go. [Music] So, we’re cracking on with it now. Getting a system going. We’ve got we’ve put uh two in, two full frames like we had before, but we fixed them in as well. So, it’s all all good. All going well. Uh, one last one, which will put the orange tree under the shade as well. Uh, this is a locally known, these are mandarin oranges, but they’re tiny little things. Tiny tiny little things. Uh, I think it’ll do the tree the world of good to be in partial shade, but you know, not as harsh as sun anyway. So, uh, it’ be interesting to find out. I got to prune it uh in April, but um yeah, we’re going to keep that one under the shade as well. See what happens. [Music] [Music] there. I just wanted to chip one of the oranges off the top of that tree just to show you. They don’t get much bigger than that. Little uh what they call locally mandarin oranges. So, we’ve had far too much for lunch as normal. Stop it. Um now we’re going to we’ve decided we got the boss involved because we need to drop another we’re going to do another hoop on the end because the evening sun will be over there shining in and the evening sun here is the hottest 5:00 6 o’clock in the evening. So, we’ll probably put another hoop on to give us another three uh 2 m of shade that way. That way, um everything should be good, eh? You happy with that? Yes, dear. Good. There you go. See? Make it so. Make it so. Number one, she says. Cool. So, Luke and I are going to attempt Luke and I are going to attempt wasn’t my idea. Uh uh because we’re going to put another loop on. We’re going to move this whole loop together what onto the next section and then fill in between something like that to avoid taking it apart. We put the camera on cuz it could go horribly wrong. [Music] So, we’re now going to attempt to fit the first part of the shade knitting. It’s 3 m wide. It’s folded in half here. So, we’re going to unroll it and then uh get the salty sweat out your eyes. [Music] Wow. [Music] Wow. Wow. [Music] [Music] So, there we have it. Mostly up. There’s a little bit to do on the back. I need to get some more clips and stuff, but uh thank you, Luke, for your help. You’re welcome. And um yeah, job well done there. It’s looking good. Big, eh? Hey, it’s big. So it’s what? 2 4 6 8 10 m by 10 m. 100 square meters of shade. Got to love it. I’ll just show you how much actual shade it is. Don’t know if this will come out. So this is actual sunlight here and this is the shady bit. So there’s a a fair bit of difference. It definitely you can feel it if you look up to the sun with on your face like that which is there in here. Definitely feels cooler. Make a difference straight away. I wonder if I could demonstrate that any better way than my ugly face. Okay, so Angie’s away on uh doing she started doing yoga. So she’s gone away. It’s uh Thursday morning. So it’ll be every Thursday morning. And while she’s gone, I’m going to remove this. So, I’m going to have to obviously make some room first to be able to get some tools in here and uh see what we’re dealing with. Oops. So, I don’t think we’re going to need these big ones. [Music] only because it might hinder our chances of getting it out with roots on. So, yeah, it is getting quite big, but I reckon if I see it moves. There’s a massive rock under here. Yeah. And I think it’s growing down on top of the rock and trying to find roots in between it. Uh so what I think I’ll do is remove all this stone around here. Um maybe a few more of these branches so I can get a bar in and dig around. So that’s made a bit of room and um I’ll try and dig a like out here somewhere all around. Give it a bit of wall room and a bit of a root wall. But I’m pretty confident that’s going to come out. fairly well. So, as you can see, I’ve uh I’ve had to cut one fairly big route at the back, but I’m certainly loosening up. I’ll try and wiggle it both always. Uh yeah, there’s one big route about the size of my thumb going that way. Uh I’ve had to cut it off. I’m nearly 2T 600 mil from the center of the tree anyway. So, but that’s on the surface. Uh, let’s try some more wriggling. Diggling nicely. [Applause] Oh, so I’ve managed to get down oh length of me arm deep here. Uh just going to roll it over this side now and do the same the other side. And uh yeah, I think some might go down deep in between the rocks. No. Oh, she’s going to be so pleased with me. I can feel it in my bones. I probably will. Yeah. So, what I’ll do now is I’ll dig down here as deep as I can and then it should just pop out. So, it would seem that this doesn’t really have a sort of root ball. Uh, big root on top here and there’s one under here I’ve had to cut off. Uh it appears they’re spreading out like a lot of you guys have advised. So uh I think I a bit of brute force and ignorance which I have plenty of both. I think I should be able to get it out. Let me put you here on it. There might be another route there. No, no, that’s definitely not a mighty. I don’t know whether because it’s a rubber tree, all the roots are really flexible, but it seems to move really well. Try again with that one gone. Oh dear. Oh well, keep digging around it. Find it. So, I’m pretty sure now if I can get a bar under there and a rock in here. Oh, yeah. Increase the fram a bit. Nope. that stopped then suddenly. Well, the only a great benefit about doing this is this uh here is a wild crazy uh lemon verina next to this line and it’s smelling lovely. always find the positives, right? Let’s get down here. Oh. Ah, not that one. So, I think this is it. I think I’m there. Oh, maybe not. Come on. Okay, hopefully this is it. Uh, I don’t hold out much there. Put me teeth back in. I don’t hold out much hope for this plant. I’ve had to cut so many roots off. They’re just going off in all directions. So, uh, I’ll pull the lump out. We’ll try and replant it. Try and get it going somewhere safe away from buildings. But, uh, here it goes. Oh, really? Here goes nothing. Come on, baby. More digging. Finally, without much of a root ball left, I think everything’s let go. up. Here it goes. That’s left a bit of a gap. So, there we have it. And it will appear just in time. So, we’re going to get a live a live reaction. Oh, no. Darling, I’ve been busy in the garden for you. Oh, you got to look at this. No, no. Where where rubber plant? It had to go. It’s gone. Where? Just down there for a minute. Oh, no. It looks like rubber rubber murderer. Yeah, really. So, I don’t know if the roots will retake. I hope not. Why have you taken this out? It’s got ridiculous apparently. Yeah. So, I’ve replanted it here as deep as I can. This again is down onto granite. Um, but it’s deep enough. So, plenty of water. I will make sure I water that every single day. And uh yeah, to quote one of the Rocky films, if he dies, he dies. Random event of the day. Right, I’m just doing a bit of kitchen cleaning up and just cleaning the top of the cooker. And I don’t know if you can see this, but look, we have a tiny little baby gecko in here. Oh, don’t run away. Don’t run away. Right, I’m going to put the camera down because I need to rescue him. But it’s a good job I took off the uh the little top plates, isn’t it? Right, let’s see if I can get him. Right, tiny baby gecko is safely in my hand. So, I’m going to put him or her. There you go. Come on. Yay. Well, it took a leap of faith and uh wow that I would never expected to have find I’ve never expected to find a gecko on my oven. Okay, so what you doing here? I have two bog plants that our lovely friend Linda gave us yesterday. So, I’ve just pulled out some of the dead bits from this one. It’s now going to go to its new home, which will be I’ll film this cuz you might fall in. So, here. Yeah. Yeah. What I’ll do, I’m going to put them in their pots just to see. Just leave them in the pots for now. Okay. Um, I don’t know whether it will go there or just some around there, doesn’t it? Um, what do you think, Dar? I I have no idea. No, I know. I’ve got to make the bridge better now. Yeah, it’s a little little um It’s a bit rocky. Yeah, it’s okay. They call him teeter totter. Teeter totter. It’s quite shallow there. Yeah. And it’ll get shaded a bit by those the liies. Yeah. Yes. What I’ll do, I’ll take my shoes and socks off and get in here and make this bridge better, I think. Yeah, I’ll do that now. Cool. These are like pitcher plants. Yeah. Yes. So, like I said, we’ll just leave them there in the pot because I might go, “Oh, actually, I don’t like them there.” And uh move them and uh Okay, that’s that’s all we have time for. Um very very hectic week. Very hot week as well. Hot week. Yeah, it’s just gone a bit. Yeah, lots going on. Anyway, thanks for watching everyone. Hope you enjoyed it. If you did enjoy it, please give it a big fat thumbs up like and uh if you liked it and um you’re not subscribed, please check that you are subscribe. It’s free. It’s free. And if you want to be notified about upcoming videos, please ring the little notification belling and we’ll see you in the next one. Um, next one’s going to be different. Uh, what we do every year and be there’s gonna be loads of people doing it because it’s our local fest uh, shall going to be lots of sheep. Lots of walking. Lots of sheep. Lots of walking and lots of maybe bit of music and and some celebration and maybe a beer or two. Yeah. But no rubber plant. Sorry. And we’ll see you there. See, this is what happens when I try yoga for the first time.

  1. Hey Nick….I do like the shade over the garden area……

And as for that Rubber Tree (Difernbachia), yes…I also had to dig one up in a home that I had a couple of decades ago…when I was more than a bit younger than I am now….and YES, those bloody roots do go off in ALL directions. I managed to get the majority as it was only a small tree like yours, and they went for about 20-30 feet across the yard. It was only a small tree, and should never have been allowed out of its pot. Good to see Max again.

  2. 24:11 it must be tricky securing the cross bars as I assume most, if not all of the parts are hollow. I would think that that means less for the screw to attach to.

  3. from experience I´d recommend extra insulation: alu bubbles + roofmate (xps).. sandwich panels are meant to replace roof tiles, not the whole layering. they will radiate heat to the inside in full sun (a lot!).. so probably inside heat will radiate out in the winter. ambient noise shouldn't be a problem in that location but sandwich is awful at keeping those out. bird walking on top is simply dreadful.. and ants love to colonize them inside… meh

  4. …I did wonder, Nick, if that rubber tree was on the official list of relocations. I hope your back survived! Your vast and peaceful water gardens are looking wonderfully lush, now. Great work! Equally vast, your shade house is ready for a fit-out, I imagine. ☺

  5. Oh, Nick, I thought that rubber plant was going to beat you😂😂Your pool area is beginning to look as if it has always been there⭐️⭐️⭐️

  6. Isso não é uma lagartixa é uma osga e não é nada bom numa cozinha eu nem tinha pegado ela na mão

  7. I hope the rubber tree survives! I think it is a beautiful tree. I've seen them in tropical countries though & they get huge, although this one maybe won't be as big since it's variegated & on a huge rock.

The shade tunnel is a great idea.

I love those carnivorous plants that are in the bog.

  8. Such a beautiful sound to start your vlog the sound of water
Nick & Luke team work again this week can see the logic in giving shade well done lads job well done
Oh Nick that plant certainly gave you trouble I’m surprised you didn’t use the digger to pull it out
Hope you enjoyed the yoga Andrea 👍

  9. Do you guys remember tje song, wjen the ant wamted to move rubber tree, ans he had High hopes, high hopes, high apple.pie in the sky hopes and oops tkere goes another rubber tree plant . Nick and Luke sure are no ants 😂😂😂

  10. Nick, that rubber plant is still too close to the house, they will knock it over in no time. It Will reshoot if any roots remained. Much like that Yucca too close to the beautiful pond wall!

  11. Very difficult to kill a ficus. You can plant two foot of stick and it will grow. Pleanty water it will be OK
