Hey y’all I’m new to this sub and I’m a plant noob so bear with me. I’ve had this ZZ plant for a while now (prob almost a year) and it’s been slowly growing this one stalk. At first I just thought it was growing a new one but then it just kept getting taller and it’s been light green for a while. Google hasn’t been much help. The only thing I can gather is it might be etiolating? If that’s the case what should I do to remove the tall stalk?

I think it’s watered once a week, maybe once every two week if me or my wife forget. Some rocks at the bottom for drainage but not a lot bc we need to get a bigger pot for it

She’s looking for light. A lot of plants grow up and get spindly like this when they’re lacking light. Try moving it into a more sunny area, but if you’re fine with this growth pattern then the plant looks healthy. The light green is just a sign of the leaves being young, they’ll get harder and darker as they age

Looks a little etiolated. Leaves should grow more compact than that. What direction is the window it’s near facing? ZZ plants tolerate low light, but if it’s quite a distance away from a north-facing window which already provides low light when the plant is right in front of it, it just won’t be getting much light at all.

Would also be careful about watering under these circumstances. I personally would never have a succulent that’s in peat moss AND in a glazed ceramic pot. It’s just a bad combination; it could take forever to dry or it could get waterlogged. At least from my experience. It may be better suited to terracotta, but definitely don’t water once a week, maybe not even every 2 weeks. If it needs to be potted up, this is the perfect opportunity to pot in either plastic or terracotta (pot up by 1 inch) with some chunky soil that contains lots of grit. Then water less often.

I don’t think it is etiolating, she looks very healthy! I find once a week a bit too much watering (at least for my ZZ) but obviously works well for you

Pardon but what is A ZZ? Other name for it?

Definitely etiolating (looking for light) and overwatered. My ZZ’s get watered every 3-4 weeks or so. They have rhizomes, potato-like root systems that store water, FYI.
