A man was arrested in connection with 16 shop thefts by West Midlands Police officers following a back-garden chase in Castle Bromwich.

Solihull’s neighbourhood policing teams said the man was wanted in connected with shop thefts and an assault on an officer.

The man was taken in during a week of “high-priority arrests” in Solihull this week, the force said.

Elsewhere in the borough, cars obstructing footpaths were issued with warnings and a man wanted for breaching a domestic violence protection notice was held by officers at a bus station.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Officers from the Smith’s Wood, Kingshurst and Castle Bromwich team arrested a man who was wanted in connection with shop thefts.

“The team also arrested a man who was wanted in connection with 16 shop thefts and assaulting an officer.

“He was arrested following a chase through back gardens in Castle Bromwich.

“Two PCSOs from the team also picked up a stolen car in Kingshurst after checks revealed it had been taken from a nearby address.

“In Chelmsley Wood, the team arrested a man who was wanted for breaching a domestic violence protection notice, while a joint operation was held by officers from Chelmsley Wood and British Transport Police.

“The operation, at the bus interchange, also involved colleagues from Safer Travel and National Express.

“In Shirley, the team’s PCSOs carried out patrols along Northbrook Road issuing warnings to vehicles found blocking the footpaths.

“Finally, the Chelmsley Wood team joined Streetwatch volunteers for patrols following community concerns.”
