Inspired by the_urban_nemophilist’s reels that kept popping up in my feed about a week ago, I made 2 little terrariums over the weekend!
For the larger one I picked up an amethyst, my sister’s birthstone, at a local new age shop and found a coordinating crushed purple glass to use as drainage and sprinkled a little on top “for added visual interest” (though there is one shard sitting on top of the moss in this photo that bugged me enough to move it, but only after I took this photo). I don’t know my mosses, but there are 3 in this jar.
The tiny one has 2 types of moss – I like how on this small scale the taller moss ends up looking tree-like.
Anyway, going to see how these 2 do and if the amethyst one is alive and doing well by December I’m hoping to gift it to my sister. So here’s hoping that “this terrarium can thrive.” 💚✨

This looks really nice. I have never thought of using decorative gemstones as a drainage layer.
I too started building terrariums after watching nemophilist’s channel.
