I bought this house a year ago. I had an arborist come look at the street a month ago and he said it needed a trim but looked OK gave it like a six out of 10 on health. I’ve been trying to save up enough money to get it trimmed. Saw this mushroom grow a couple days ago and am freaking out. I know mushrooms are BAD when it comes to trees so how effed am I? Is it a lost cause? Is there anything I can do? Its a giant oak and I would love to save it as it is such a plus for the house and you know I just love trees.

Tbh. If you did nothing it will probably be there in 20+ years
Mature oaks and internal decay go hand in hand. Just keep and eye on it and try to get a consulting arborist to give it a thorough check to see what the extent of the decay is
Your tree is most likely perfectly fine. I would not trim it anytime soon. Go look in that hole and see how far the rot goes in. It might just be surface level and the mushroom is from the little moisture that hole holds.
if it makes you feel better, one of our arborists gave someone a quote today for 13,500 to remove a huge oak tree and $1600 to grind the stump. I do not know how big it is but i think a lot of the problem is really bad access.
Incidently, the tree looks very healthy, but have you considered posting that image on r/mildlypenis ?
Those yellow mushrooms are harmless. I get them on my trees sometimes when we’ve had a bunch of rain and shade. They go away when it’s sunny and drier again.
Assuming you called an actual arborist, listen to the arborist.
Not an arborist but this tree has a giant dick on it so I assume very fucked. The dick looks like its at least 2 ft which is not going to feel great.
That tree could still easily outlast you
There is some amount of internal decay in your tree. I don’t know why there are people in this thread telling you to go up on a ladder and assess the amount of decay yourself, but that’s how this sub goes.
Nevertheless, one fruiting body doesn’t mean that it’s going to fall over tomorrow, but it is definitely worth watching. Depending upon how secure you are in your job in these economic times in this country, you may want to get a [Registered Consulting Arborist](https://www.asca-consultants.org/search/custom.asp?id=3818) out there maybe in 1-3 years to have a look for a better assessment of the extent of decay…depending upon how things keep going, and how many fruiting bodies pop next fall.
Lol, I thought it was a red squirrel standing there
Call an arborist.
It looks good to me, mushroom on it’s own is not a danger sign since all it takes for them to grow is a spore and some suitable soil…
If it looses leaves earlier than other trees or is late to regrow them especially on the top… then you can start to worry.
Nature be naturin’
Oh. I thought it was a cat
Wait a second… do i see 8===D or i am tripping?👀🤣
I see your tree is a male
Your tree is fine dude save your cans
