Amazon recently shared that it helped fund more than 10,000 affordable homes across the Puget Sound region through collaborative creation and preservation efforts with community organizations, public officials, and mission-aligned developers.
“When I think about these affordable homes, I see families finding stability and new opportunities,” said Alice Shobe, Amazon’s director of community impact, in a press release. “I’m grateful to celebrate this milestone with our amazing housing partners, passionate community advocates, and the local officials who’ve championed these efforts. These are solutions that will make a difference for generations to come.”
According to the press release, the achievement represents more $900 million in housing investments in the Puget Sound, benefitting 22,000 residents.
“Amazon’s partnership has been transformative for affordable-housing development in the Puget Sound region. Their approach combines critical financial resources with a genuine commitment to long-term community stability through 99-year affordability requirements,” added Mercy Housing Northwest President Joe Thompson in a statement. “At Connection Angle Lake, this partnership allowed us to create not just housing, but a community where residents can thrive near transit, jobs, and services.”
Through Sept. 30, Amazon’s housing fund is accepting applications for Puget Sound projects.
