Fire rips through commercial building in Bell Gardens

Nearly two dozen people were evacuated after a large fire broke out at a commercial building in Bell Gardens Sunday afternoon.

BELL GARDENS, Calif. (KABC) — Nearly two dozen people were evacuated and a firefighter was injured after a large fire broke out at a commercial building in Bell Gardens Sunday afternoon.

Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the area near S. Garfield Avenue and Santa Clara Street just after 3:05 p.m. and quickly became a 2nd alarm fire.

Fire officials said that at least 20 people were evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries in the blaze, according to the L.A. County Fire Department.

Footage from AIR7 shows four fire trucks with ladders and hoses extended, attempting to put out the flames.

It’s not clear what was inside the building. The fire was knocked down shortly after 5 p.m.

No further details were immediately provided.

The cause of the fire is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
