this week we’re up that’s pretty impressive isn’t it or is it just me I come along and they start smiling shut up we’re down I don’t like it don’t like it I don’t like it frankly we don’t know if we’re coming or going having it all done up would just be our worst nightmare really beautifully done is that a problem though not a problem at all if it’s done like this testy we love this house but no it’s nothing nothing like what we asked you for [Music] [Applause] Rita and Donnie want to be close but not too close to family and friends in the commuter corner of Kent and have the scope to escape to Sicily when they feel like taking off but with a tight budget and grandiose plans we need to bring them down to earth meet hardworking 28-year olds rakita and Donnie Patel she works in the city and he has a highflying job in Pharmaceuticals but what they really want is to play happy families well there’s only two of us now but you don’t know in a couple of years for 2 years they’ve been searching for the perfect pad to make a new life and 4 months ago they found it a for bed just half an hour from Rita’s parents in Shirley Cen with a large garden and most importantly plenty of room to extend but just days before they were due to move in rakita and Donnie became one of the first casualties of the credit crunch the mortgage company looked at all our finances said everything was okay from the survey of the building and then literally at the final stage of sign off they decided that they were going to pull the product like a growing number of buyers they lost the house because of nervous lenders think in our heads we’d already kind of moved in and we’d already you know had the house it was ours we still we talked about it as our house to top it all off they’d already rented out their hat field home and have ended up sharing with their own tenant yeah yeah bruised but not beaten by this challenging property Market they’re now ready to double their efforts to find their perfect home in Kent With a Little Help from us now we want to find somewhere else which is going to be even better right and it’s not just an escape to the country they’ve been dreaming of rakita and Donny’s new life dream includes a piece of the continent for the last few years years they’ve been coveting their very own holiday Hideway where in years to come they can take their family and the place that caught their eye Sicily beautiful food Beautiful People beautiful weather just a place we can sort of get away for the Sun for a couple of days we have very busy lives and we you know we don’t tend to have time to plan expensive holidays it would be nice for us just to spend a weekend there and for our family to come over as well problem is the Home in Kent has to be a priority so they’ve only got 20,000 set aside for their perfect In the Sicilian Sun oh Mama Mia here we go again time to put this search under the microscope Phil back to property HQ we’ll start from the inside out they’ve got quite Grand ideas these two haven’t they it’s almost as though they think we’re magicians or something telling me but the problem is the 10 to 15 year ambition how when you’re 28 can you envisage yourself 15 years from now well that’s what we’re going to have to help them with I suppose yeah they’re two University educated people mathematics and biochemistry they want a good education for their kids so the goalpost will change I guarantee you that well what they need at the moment is to be somewhere in Northwest Kent near Rita’s parents they’ve got £400,000 and from that they’re looking for four bedrooms a garden and off street parking a tough ask even these days yes but above all they want a project so that should help us find something within budget and of course having solved that then we’re off to Sicily no way fell I’m off Sicily well good luck because they want a holiday home within an hour of poo with space for friends and family all for 20 grand don’t forget the balcony or the garden I’m very much looking forward to a trip to Sicily you just want an Italian Bar R you don’t give a monkeys whether they bar of course I do poor pipsqueak is going to have a battle on his hands in sicy so I’m starting the English search in Kent rikita and Donnie may be desperate to find their dream family home but they expect ations are Sky High even in this buyer Market it’s time to start clipping some wings you’ve been searching for 2 years what’s going wrong I think we’re just we’re just really particular about what we like and you know one house will have one thing but it won’t have another and then another house will have that other thing but it won’t have the thing we saw in the other house so we’re looking for all of those elements together in one house has it occurred to you that after 2 years it’s just not out there no no not at all it’s there it’s out there well optimism is one thing but blind Faith’s another I don’t think you’ve got their heads out of the clouds just yet Cy what do you feel about the current Marketplace we won’t really compromise on the type of house we want so just because the Market’s turning over a bit slower we’re not going to reduce our expectations of what we want and we’re looking for a place that we can do up we don’t want to pay premium for someone who’s already done yeah having it having it all done up would just be our worst nightmare really usually that goes different L I say look guys your expectations are too high and they say we understand we trust you we’ll go with what you think is a good house that is not just what happened there is no compromise there is no dropping in expectations there is no belief that the right property is not out there and there is a lot of pressure on Phil and I Thanks to good schools and travel links to London the market in the Kent suburbs hasn’t slowed quite in line with the rest of the country with rikita and Donny’s budget the most likely Bargains will be the houses that for one reason or another are sitting empty lucky for us then that they’re Keen to take on a project and I’m starting with the perfect project in orpington just 30 minutes by train from London behind this overgrown Jungle of a garden is a Sleeping Beauty of a property in its 5 months of being on the market this house has only attracted four viewings a clear sign of overpricing even with three bedrooms off street parking and an 80t Garden the price is already dropped nearly 25 Grand to £375,000 and I think there’s at least another 20K to shave off the patels seem just the couple with enough Vision to turn this house around so here we are in orpington now it’s a lovely quart Street in the catchment area of some very good schools and it’s an extraord AR house because it’s completely detached with a large garden and it looks like hell excellent but structurally it’s completely sand and actually in very good condition just looking at it from the outside you can’t see much of it cuz it’s all overgrown but I’m interested to see what it looks like on the inside as well this house also makes money sense we’ve spoken to a builder and £50,000 could add more kitchen and living space and a fourth bedroom which would be money well spent on a long-term investment so coming straight in guys it’s got a wide Hall you’ll see it’s in Immaculate condition inside good front room and then this is your family room now obviously at the moment there’s a galley kitchen what you want to do in terms of knocking it all through is totally up to you right and the potential to put on extra rooms is there you’ll see that when we go upstairs okay it seems to have a nice layout actually I think this back room is quite nice wanted a garden Donnie looks positive but thoughtful you look more negative we spend a lot of time eating and dining in the kitchen with a gley kitchen I’m not sure it doesn’t give us the that flexibility to do that but you are wanting a house that’s a project and you want to do work too exactly but if we were to knock through this wall and have a big open plan area here we just have one small room at the front but so what you’re saying to me Rita is that the layout is putting you off at the moment it is it’s definitely the layout the layout well we’ve established that there’s a budget and the space to extend this house so the world’s your oyster you could do anything you want So at the moment as I said it’s a it’s a galley kitchen M it’s it’s a big space this bit would be narrow MH units all the way down you’d have the sort of serviceable areas I don’t like it don’t like it I don’t like it want to walk out don’t like it want to see the end of the garden no do you not at all I don’t think so no Okie do so totally on to the next thing just didn’t doesn’t no good feeling at all no there’s not I just I can’t see it doesn’t have any it’s like it’s this small little kitchen and small little front room and okay don’t like it good schools a long-term family home A Sound Investment all down the drain because they haven’t got the vision to see what this place could become sooner Mr Spencer gets his backside down to Kent the better I’ve never needed his support [Music] [Applause] [Music] more this week we’re looking for an opportunity to knock down walls in Northwest Kent and take time out in Sicily sounds like my idea of Heaven what could possibly go wrong rikita and Donnie Patel are hoping 400,000 is enough to buy them a three bed detached property with potential in the popular parts of Northwest Kent not necessarily an easy task even in this market we’ve already managed to find them one great house but they hated it and now kirsty’s got a right drop on so I hear things a bit tough yesterday yeah all that talk about project project project sh it turns out the first house we walk into she’s like I can’t see it yeah it’s too narrow and I it doesn’t matter you know you got 40 50 Grand to do the work oh no that was just absolutely fell I mean so flat I thought she was going to cry you don’t believe that they’re up for the extension or they just can’t see it Donnie is but she the house has to be right in the first place and have potential to do work not at these prices no I know no I no okay just don’t leave me that’s all I’m saying spting up yeah I wouldn’t dream was splitting up promises promises but I’m still nervous about our next house it may only be 5 minutes from the train station and in the catchment area for the best schools in our search Zone but it’s very similar in size and style to the one we saw yesterday and that went down like a lead bloom in its favor it’s a probate sale so it’s asking price of 380 ,000 is an absolute bargain on such a desirable Road and the precedent for development’s been set up and down the street rikita and Donnie don’t need Vision to extend here all they’d have to do is copy their neighbors and I’m going to forget about yesterday new day new house it’s a very peaceful Street off a very useful Road and yet 100 yards off the street you thing no it’s all quiet and peaceful this house is in the catchment area of the best best school of any of the properties that is probably I would say on our top five high points for this house okay Johny you’re very quiet um First Impressions I think the front could have more space I quite like the house dy I think it’s quite pretty from the front you’ve got the garden I mean it’s not a massive Garden but I don’t think we need a massive one is she just saying what she thinks or is she telling him what he should be thinking I sense trouble come on in I know you like original features so just pointing out the uh the nice pretty glass there it’s quite a nice hway it’s quite spous would you um close it up open it up what would you do I I like it open I like the big space and you can see out onto the garden and everything well that’s a turn up for the books the open plan option in yesterday’s house almost made rikita cry I mean it’s a really good space it is I mean the carpet’s Hideous and the walls are hide but but I really like it it’s on the market at 380,000 but it’s been on for a long time they had a bar at 355 and the only reason they didn’t accept that offer was because of the position of those buyers so we have every reason to believe at this point an offer of 355 would be acceptable good it’s good news positive okay see if we think of this Rita it it it’s wider than where you were much better much better yes Rita that’s where your kitchen would end where the green drain pipe is that’s a very good size that is a really good size so that’s as I said more than double the width of the current kitchen easily enough space Square won’t it Y what did you do to them yesterday or is it just me I come along and they start smiling shut up this room is made for me D I really like this place you know what it is it’s like if someone comes into a different house with a different attitude they see this is a glass half full house and for for some reason yesterday’s was a glass half empty house and there are so little differences between the two well let’s not complain so guys what’s the verdict very good we’ve had a good look around the upstairs yeah we think this is my favorite R be hard to beat this one really yes as good as that Mark’s out of 10 yes this one’s uh 9 and a half wow 9 and a half we don’t normally get that money 9 and a half is is pretty good you’re not just trying to save our feelings after yesterday Donny did look a bit like he was chewing tax on the outside of this house one thing we just did mention actually is that ideally would like a bit um that has to be set back a bit from the main road great now rakita is happy but having a large driveway seems to be a bit of a sticking point with Donnie as if our wish list wasn’t long enough already our next house is in Shirley just seven streets from the property rikita and Donnie lost when the lending Market was paralyzed going by by the ofstead reports schools here aren’t as good as in West Wickham but that didn’t worry our pair when they offered on the last property so we can’t rule it out now £380,000 for three bedrooms two reception rooms and a driveway I hope it’s up to Donny’s standards is this it this is it this is it really yep did you hear that Phil we had a wow from Donnie fit a number of cars in here I think car yeah okay well I think this house is a kind of a a pumped up version of the one in West Wickham it’s kind of West Wickham on steroids cuz every room is just a bit bigger the same but bigger yeah what do you think Donnie do you like the floor I do I like the floor it’s proportions of the room are very good the feeling of space comes right through we’ve come to show early the roads wider you come in here the rooms bigger and that continues right the way through mhm um do you prefer it to West wiam or not I do actually I could see myself in here more so than the West wian property so Donnie feels at home and Rita is smiling too we might even have trumped West Wickham here ah bless you ever The Optimist we’ll see we’re very mindful you you wanted a project you wanted something to do up but do think about the fact that you you would move in and you wouldn’t need to spend any more money there’s still the extension possibility mhm but otherwise in terms of refurbishing what exists zero okay Rita Spees um I don’t know if that sounds that attractive actually the idea of having to move into a house and not do anything is not something I’ve really got my head around the potential is there to do something but we don’t have to necessarily assume it’s just the necessity to do it yeah you see Phil rikita lulls you into a full sense of security with that big smile then bam your house is shot down in flames rakita said she couldn’t get a head round the idea of just moving into something and not doing work I it’s about the excitement of being able to moving and start work on something straight away and I think that’s what she probably feels like she missing out on maybe well Donnie seems quite Keen he does doesn’t he and yet in West Wickham you were the ones you were the one that was kind of more vocal I wondered whether it’s because it has it is actually a very nice looking house inside now and that’s slightly put you off in a way it has I mean every house that we’ve kind of got really passionate about we’ve walked in and said oh this needs doing this needs doing and we’ve we’ve kind of just looked at it but this house the front room was all done up obviously with the extension we’ve got all that potential but I’m not seeing it right now no I’m starting to see what you were talking about this yes exactly there’s an inconsistency there I can’t quite keep up with what Rita wants and that may be because she wants everything well she doesn’t particularly like this house H I don’t know I’m I’m really confused I okay yeah I think we’ll have to think about it I don’t love this house M I really liked the other one yeah you don’t love this house okay but I think Donnie does love this house and in some relationships I’ve heard allegedly that the men wear the trousers yes I’ve heard that rumor too safe to say this one’s a no then kirsty’s left them in my more than capable hands for the next one and again it’s an empty house but it hasn’t been snapped up already is a real sign of the times this one has the grander and double driveway that Donnie wants but the project and the potential that rakita wants it’s within walking distance of West Wickham shops and cafes but it’s surely postcode means £400,000 stretches to four double bedrooms three bathrooms two of the largest reception rooms we’ve seen and a kitchen Diner bang on budget with room to negotiate surely this is right up the Patel Street yeah I’m not sure about this one I don’t like the way it looks I don’t like the way it looks it just feels a bit more dense in terms of the number of houses around here Donnie doesn’t like the street I don’t like the house do you want to have a look in no fact I’m demanding that you have a look in cuz I think it’s damn good I don’t want to disappoint you anymore they’re writing off this property before they’ve even been inside hardly difficult to see why they’ve been searching for 2 years it’s not all about curb appeal well I’m not sounding The Retreat just yet I think it offers the space that you’ve been talking about and yet the project that ke has been talking about this is by far the biggest living room we’ve seen isn’t it and you’ve got a separate smaller din reception room over there mhm it’s big it is it is Big what’s going through in M it’s all open plan what they hated open plan in the first house then they loved it in the second and now they hate it here the Tad inconsistent to say the least separate by bathroom massive cupboard and extra bathroom there so we’ve got four bedrooms four bedrooms and two bathrooms you’ve taken such an immediate dislike to this poor house I don’t think you have I don’t think you really dislike the house I think you walked up the street and decided it wasn’t for you um well the location is a lot to do with it you can’t live on a street that you don’t like and what’s wrong with the street tell me please please tell me I’m seeing quiet street loads of parking trees lots of grass lots of space yeah this street it seems a bit more close and the houses are slightly different and not what we’re looking for no that’s it I’m off chin up Phil I’ll be back with you in the morning and we still have two strong contenders the double drive and Shirley got Donny’s vote and rakita gave Wes Wickham 9 and 1/2 out of 10 I’ll bet that’s where I’ll be meeting you tomorrow but in the morning we’re not summons to West Wickham or Shirley we’ve been asked to meet with keer and Donnie for a chat despite making all the right noises yesterday they’ve dropped our properties like hot potatoes and gone off in search of one of their own I have to admit we did do a bit of nosing on the internet and we did see a house just ran a corner from here which was on for 450 or just under 450 50k over budget can’t believe it we had this property on our list and discounted it because of the busy road and the lack of development potential the current owners have already extended at the back and the space at the side of the house is limited so turning it from a three bed to a four bed won’t be easy or cheap it’s completely different from their wish list but they’ve asked to see it so that’s what we’ll do to be honest with you I’ll just be glad if we get them anything I like it I like it from the front think it’s got good chunky size to it yeah what about the road it’s quite busy I’d say it’s got limited parking I think a lot of the people on the station will park up here but it’s got a space in the drive for at least three cars I’d say what was that Donnie couldn’t hear you over the traffic right okay smart hallway look at this Donnie this is good I it’s beautifully done is that a problem though um not a problem at all if it’s done like this I don’t think so you wouldn’t have to do anything in here no unbelievable at the beginning of this search rakita told me that a property which needed no work would be her worst nightmare there’s plenty of work surface and Arrangement is nice actually for cooking I think as well I think this is perfectly usable kitchen I think everything’s laid out fine really and you don’t really need any extra cupboards and things do you right yeah you could use his kitchen very easily I’m going to be devil’s advocate here you can’t even get a high chair in here you cannot cook wash up do anything with a child in this room this is £75,000 more you go back to the other West wien Property what have you got slightly shorter Garden two rooms which are slightly smaller M you can put the conservatory on you’ve got a in the budget you can put on the fourth bedroom and you can have a kitchen three times the size of this kitchen that’s what we have to think about and the reason you’re buying in West wam is because of the schools so there’s no point in buying a house in a area with good schools and then finding you still have to move when you have kids because the kitchen doesn’t work mhm there’s an apple tree in the garden I always wanted an apple tree I think it’s probably time I send them for a look upstairs before Kirsty rips out the apple tree and starts hitting people with it it’s fabulous okay that’s good and it would be really neat actually if it could open the kitchen could open up into the conservatory mhm I can I can see us in that kitchen I can see us in the conservatory okay it’s clearly all you looked for hasn’t isn’t it for the past two years believe we found it okay we’ll work on getting this property for you okay it wasn’t me oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] dear rikita and Donnie just seem to keep changing their minds one minute they want the world on a play the next is the moon on a stick they didn’t like the four properties Kirsty and I showed them and asked to see one we’d already discarded because it was too small lacking in development potential and 50,000 over budget we may have a buyer’s market on our hands but the owners of this house aren’t desperate to sell I don’t think that rikita and Donnie will be able to afford it but they’ve already fallen in love Dangerous Ground you know they say Phil that if you’re a bridesmaid you get a snor at a wedding yes well I was prom Earth are you going with this I was promised walls coming down they walked in here and they said this is great we wouldn’t have to do any work oh look it’s already got the extension done I it’s not complain Ito at the house Okie doie have a Pew thank you how was it upstairs it was gorgeous it was very nice I’m already in this house yeah but we are trying to be as logical about this and we know if we do buy it will stretch us financially and it’s not a huge project from that respect which we will after so yeah he said don’t set your heart on it yet because it’s not ours yet are you in danger of I iting your heart on it yes and if I do that then it’s disastrous I just need you to say hands up this isn’t what we asked you for but we love it KY we love this house but no it’s nothing nothing like what we asked you for fine that’s it go away think about this we know that it’s on the market at just shy 450,000 whether or not they’re except the 400 that you can afford is a different matter entirely I hate to be a spoils but we really want rikita and Donnie to weigh up the financial implications of choosing pricey walk-in wow over practicality and long-term maneuverability but in the morning it seems Our advice has fallen on deaf ears not for the first time what have you been thinking about we’ve been thinking about what type of offer we want to put in and we don’t really want to stretch our budget so we sticking to 400,000 that this is a very low offer I will ring Laura at the estate AG I will put that offer forward I will explain that you are Franky dream purchases able to move totally at the convenience of the vendors exactly rakita and Donnie are great buyers they’re not in a chain and they’re ready to move but 50,000 under the asking price is not surprisingly too much for the vendors to swallow even in this market the message is loud and clear rakita and Donnie can’t afford this house so they decide to stay put and bide their time whilst they they wait for another perfect property to [Music] appear while they’re waiting for this Ideal Home to magically hit the market they’d still like to continue with their Italian dream an oasis from their busy working lives in Sicily rikita and Donnie have asked around and reckoned they can get a pad over here for a minuscule 20,000 easy to say but I’m the one pounding the streets to try and make it happen believe it or not it is possible but don’t all flock here at once buyers on a Sho string have to be prepared to drive away from the major Resorts and to take on a project problem is room for family and friends close to palmo airport with no cash for building work isn’t going to happen which leaves me high and dry and I already know this pair have got eyes bigger than their budget we really want somewhere which is an hour from the airport so we can get here quite easily uh preferably close to the beach um want at least a one bedroom and some living space outdoor space definitely so some kind of Terrace or balcony I think we’re looking for something that we can just have as a holiday home to relax in yeah I think the the ideal um is somewhere peaceful somewhere relaxing somewhere idelic and we’re beautiful and just kind of chill out really chill out so quite a lengthy list of of requirements um did you expect anything l no not from you absolutely not I think there’s optimism going struggles are back on again lucky me with the UK Market in such turmoil rikita and Donnie remain Keen to hang onto the dream of changing their life and in investment terms rural Sicily is a bit of a well-kept secret £20,000 won’t buy Walkin wow by the sea but it will buy a modest townhouse or apartment in a rural Village we’re starting the search in kamo approximately 60 minutes from palmo airport and 10K from the beach this is a village on the up so we’re perfectly placed to grab a bargain so this is kamo yeah it looks fantastic doesn’t it it’s lovely I want to take you up here and show you the view you get up here and you I think get a great perspective of the town and and the position of it I think as a town it offers everything that you could ever wish for and from here you’ve got a you can clearly see the demarcation between the old town where we’re stood and the new town over there MH over the last 50 years or so more and more of the locals have moved out of the Old Town up the hill or or across the way to to the new town leaving older properties I think more characterful properties and cheaper properties are here we really like the older properties the character ones so it’s really good news for us and wonderfully enough the first one I’ve got to show you up that right up there right up there I know it’s a hot day this top floor flat is in the heart of the Old Town surrounded by bars cafes and restaurants it’s a one bed with beautiful views out back and not so beautiful views out front in moving Condition it’s a perfect base for rikita and Donnie to go exploring and it’s right on budget at just under £2,000 or 25,000 we’ve surpassed ourselves here we are 45 square m of cak finist what’ you reckon Donnie what do I think um in terms of square footage I think this living room is quite nice this living room is nice everything seems to rolve around here I the would put someone yeah we’ve performed one Miracle just finding this place for £20,000 you can afford to send them to the local B&B until you can get something better you got a double bed and you’ve got a massive wardrobe and a and a chest so yeah it’s a it’s a big bedroom but it’s just there’s only one of them yes no no complaints on the size of bedroom at all take yourselves out there okay one of you is going to get a view so it’s not just a Brit wall little table one of you gets the view one of you doesn’t and I just watch what’s going on in town exactly it’s still a brick wall though isn’t it Donnie so an hour from the airport in an interesting town this is what €25,000 buys you I think it’s bang on but it’s the views it’s the views it’s definitely the views yeah yeah I mean we couldn’t spend too much time in here yeah we wouldn’t we wouldn’t spend time in here because you can’t do a lot in here apart from cook and eat and live it’s a living space and it’s a very usable living space but I want more okay you won I want more €25,000 it’s good I’m amazed we can even get a one bed flat this close to the airport for 20 grand not rikita though the smiling assassin strikes again something’s got to give and I suspect it won’t be the price the property or the location which means I’m can to have to think outside the box I’m sweating and it’s not just the local climate there’s a growing rental market in kakam and if Rita and Donnie would be prepared to share their Sicilian dream they could afford to buy a bigger house they weren’t looking to rent out their property but if they want more this close to the airport it might be their only option just still very much in the um Old Town of kak but bit further removed this Mountainside townhouse has two double bedrooms two reception rooms two bathrooms and a kitchen double the space for twice the price but will they go for it Mita you wanted a view mhm is that good enough yeah that’s more like it that’s Freer isn’t it look at that it’s a lot nicer isn’t it wow you can see really distance from here I think that’s what this whole search has been about yeah trying to get that it’s pretty fab little better than before much better than everything I think you’ve got it right with this one I think it’s awesome so we got two bathrooms two reception rooms okay and a separate kitchen it’s very good what’s the catch okay this is on at an asking price of £36,000 mhm given the size of your deposit if you were to take a loan for the additional money MH and if you were to let this out for 10 weeks of the year we’ve spoken to guest houses around here would happily let it for you and use it as as essentially an extension of their guest houses they would get you for £50 per week in the peak season as a holiday lap it’s a very good option isn’t it very attractive isn’t it very attractive you’ve done your research haven’t you well that’s the general idea yes well there’s plenty of smiles there I’m not surprised you can’t really argue with the maths onest it speaks for itself you could easily rent this place like you wouldn’t want to live here it’s really nice isn’t it it’s really nice really nice I like it well some pretty pretty emotional reactions up there yeah we really like it I think that’s kind of OB prop it’s yeah it’s got so much character and have you it’s definitely a serious consideration we just have to look at the money aspect a bit more yeah I think you know we’re a bit concerned about whether taking out the extra loan and everything is going to work out but okay I was just standing here thinking that’s a lemon tree don’t I remember somebody yes talking about whatting a fruit tree in England I know I saw it on the way in I was sold yeah what a surprise rikita likes the budget Buster why not the sums stack up and in years to come this could be the perfect family holiday hun but just in case renting it out is a step too far I want to show them something substantial that does come in on budget but to do that rikita is going to have to practice her least favorite word compromise we need to travel much further south 2 hours from the airport in palmo down to the town of chinchana here in the South you get a lot more yardage for your Euro this townhouse comprises three floors with the biggest balcony I’ve seen glorious views and even has a garage but would rakita and Donnie drive all the way down here to get the space they say they need now this is chinchana uh We’ve traveled a Long Way South it did seem like we came quite far yeah we are now I’m afraid 2 hours from the airport okay we have traveled a long distance and it was the space that um that prompted that here we go be so it it feels really homely as you come there’s certainly a lot of space compared to what we were expecting this entrance in the first room with the kitchen leading off it this feels like a an actual home doesn’t it so we can actually rather than just a b yeah it’s on the market for an ambitious £36,000 now it’s been on the market for a year it’s had two deals collapse right I’m led to believe by my man in the know that an offer of just under £20,000 mhm is like to to get a nod on this level you got main bedroom and bathroom right this is lovely now you might decide to use this as your bedroom you might decide to use it as a spare bedroom or a living room but it has access to lovely big balcony wow to this wow just look you could just look out for miles I think this is the kind of scene that I hope to be able to present to you when coming over Sicily it’s amazing it’s absolutely amazing is it lovely enough though it’s really difficult it’s really difficult I mean that the distance from the airport is is something that I’m really concerned about sure I’m really concern because because traveling here would take an extra two hours compared to kak which had equally stunning views do you want some time do you want to look around get to know the town I think that’s a that’s a good idea cool okay oh help yourself okay I’m not picking up buying signals any longer maybe it’s cuz we’ve just had two hours in a hot car but now I’m a bit worried they’re not actually going to buy anything after all this I was feeling confident before Kirsty where are you when I need you Far Far Away thank goodness I think the problem with these two is they’re completely unrealistic dreamers who are still too nervous to make a decision they’ve already been victims of their own about turns in the UK and if they don’t learn to make a decision then they’ll lose this dream too [Music] I bring Glad Tidings oh glad to see there’s not a bundle of money but it is some special ice cream there you go fantastic what are you making of chinchana my gut feeling when we walked into the second house was completely different to when we walked into this house and I tend to go with my gut feelings true so how does that leave us um I think we really like kak don’t we the second house and it’s something that we we seriously want to consider buying I’ve got feelings says doesn’t it place there but we will do some research it’s just because of the the extra budget the extra loan that we need to take out I can’t say right now they all falls down to money it tends to at the end of the it all comes down to money well look um once you spoke to the bank manager let me know if I can help mhm I’d love to try and buy that place for you and um we’d love to get it so let’s raise a toe for the bank [Music] manager well it’s now Autumn the skies are gray and I’m on my way to see Rita and Donnie but sadly not at their new home in fact the patels haven’t bought a house in sicy or in England so what’s gone wrong we were looking at the mortgage market and we knew that there was was a lot of products being dropped from number of banks so that’s why we decided that the primary aim of our search was to look for the UK property and that’s where we should put our finances really yeah so the sicy budget is really just going into the deposit for for the west house and it’s pretty much eating up everything isn’t it yeah that’s tough cuz it was a real dream wasn’t it I think it’s still as we’re just going to take a bit longer to get there poor rikita and Donnie that’s the second time their dreams have been Shattered by The Lending crisis they had 6 months of living with their tenant and now there’s not even sisly to escape to however you can’t have a lending crisis without a falling market and I have some news about the house they loved in West Wickham that might just put a smile back on our poor peirs faces the Avenue you know it was preceding it was preceding at 425,000 last night we got a call the person buying the Avenue’s chain behind him has collapsed and he can no longer proceed so we got a call completely out of the blue at the end of the day yesterday they are desperate to go and they would now consider offers at less than 400 okay that’s interesting that’s very very interesting right okay so we’ll have to think about that then um you you like to surprise us don’t you should we go and see it again but that I mean that’s obviously would help would you like to okay y we’ll go see it again y interesting think about it this is the house that reduced them to tears of joy not long ago and then despair when their ambitious offer was knocked back with today’s market in such a state rikita and Donnie have got a real chance of having their offer accepted this time they should be biting my hand off give me strength come on then let see what you make of it it is a beautiful house it is it’s just it’s Immaculate everything about this house is just you know they’ve put so much effort into making it beautiful I think it’s probably fair that you guys have some time looking around on your own sure the agents are desperately trying to mend the chain behind the sail of this house so if rikita and Donnie want it they’ll have to move fast oh oh come on Phil they’ve been searching for 2 and a half years glassier move faster I’m trying to be practical about it and the kitchen is small yeah and we can’t extend I don’t want to go through you know the emotional heartbreak and whatever with it if we’re going to lose it again or if I don’t know I don’t want to start it unless yeah unless we’re sure about it okay I don’t know am I being silly no you’re just being honest sometimes they just aren’t the words now now Kirsty I don’t want to get involved in something and then get our hopes up or down or whatever cuz I’m not even sure I’m not even sure if I want to do it yeah so we can’t commit to it at the moment I never thought that it would be like this emotional trying to find another house yeah but it has it has been really emotional but I’m ready I’m I’m ready to buy a house I just want to make sure that we don’t have to go through all of this again there’s been a lot that has changed during the search not just the market but I mean your requirements and your likes and dislikes and that sort of a thing but the one thing that that has remained absolutely consistent is is your optimism that you will do this and you will end up with a lovely beautiful home in the spot that you want to we will and we’ll call you and let you know as soon as it happens I can’t blame this pair for not wanting to put their hearts on the line again this search has been a roller coaster ride and I think rakita just wants to get off I know I do Donnie and Rita have spent two and a half years house hunting they’re emotionally rung out and their dream house has become an unrealistic fantasy the problem is no house hunt is without risk and compromise and until they realize that nobody can make their dreams come true [Music]

  1. Oh my life … like seriously? Are these people for real? Only episode I’ve made a comment on … hands down the worst one I’ve ever seen.

Seemed so fake … I thought this show was legitimate?!? Now I question that … especially when she first went into her dream home that they picked out … and she appeared to be crying on the upper landing. It actually looked like she just couldn’t contain herself from laughing and then feigned she was crying, when she was finally able to compose herself!

A complete waste of Phil’s and Kirstie’s time ~ they never had any intentions of buying any home.

I do find the show entertaining but is it just that .. entertainment and not a reality show at all?

  2. Sadly that is what people are like with their heads in the clouds. These 2 are a nightmare but usually this programme is good.

  3. Kirstie and Phil deserve gold medals for patience with this couple. No clue about what they really want and what they can afford. No wonder they have been searching for so long!

  4. Wow! There is something wrong with this couple. They won't take the expert advice of Kirstie and Phil. They are so unrealistic and confused. They have a champagne taste but a beer budget! I could not watch the rest of this because this couple was giving me a headache. Their attitude is sad and ridiculous!!!

  5. Someone should throttle that girl. Spoiled entitled wants everything unwilling to compromise. How Phil keeps smiling. I'll never know.

  6. I watched until the end, but it was difficult to do so. I wish this couple well while being thankful that I'm not trying to do business with them.

  7. They have no money and no mortgage. They lied! 42:59 When Phil told them the price had dropped to UNDER their budget she looked him like sh**!! What are we going to do…. They offered 400k 50k under because they knew the seller would never accept that but now don’t want it 😂😂😂😂😂

  8. I get it. The house where she started to cry, its beautiful! She felt like she's home… The small kitchen isn't perfect, true that, but there's no law saying you have to feed a kid in the kitchen..

  9. I agree with all of the other comments on this episode. I cannot believe I actually watched until the end. They were so indecisive, picky and unrealistic. I support Kirstie's opinion on this couple 100%! UGH!

  10. What's wrong with this couple is that they just wanted to be on TV. Period. They aren't emotionally or financially able to buy a house. Poor Phil, flying all the way to Sicily and wasting his time setting up appointments for properties they were never going to buy. I hope the producers learned to vet aspiring buyers better and it now looks like they have.

  11. Oh dear, almost stopped midway, but I will try to see it through. A useful episode- shows the realistic side of house buying.

  12. Is the client pregnant or just a spoiled daddy's girl?

It's like a bride fitting a dress she clearly can't afford, falling in love with it, and then being heartbroken because she can't find anything that gives her the feeling.

  13. The wife is freaking out over the first house which happens to be in mint condition and needs only a wall taken down… wow… These two weren't picky They simply weren't prepared to buy a house. Period. Let them live with their tenant (who will probably move out soon when they realize this). I've watched provavly 60-70 episodes in the last three years and this couple really took the cake. But it makes an interesting program for viewers and it's all part of the job for Kirstie and Phil. Mazel tov!

  14. In all my years of watching Phil and Kirstie in all their incarnations, don’t think I’ve ever noticed an episode in which Kirstie was expecting..her boys are much older now but this was a revelation…..guess I kind of thought she was rather like goddess in mythology whose offspring sprouted straight out of her forehead.

  15. WTF!!!! Is this couple serious about buying any house? Do they think by being on the show Phil and Kirstie was going to get them an impossible deal? You can air this episode on SNL because it feels like a comedy sketch. Without question this is the most delusional couple the show had. I have a feeling this couple just wanted to be on TV. 😂😂😂

  16. What a silly couple. Intelligent but not smart. I wasn't planning on drinking this evening, yet here I am, on behalf of Kirstie & Phil.🤣

  17. They look Indian to me… The Indian people I know often don't take decisions in isolation, on their own or as a couple. Often, the whole family – parents, siblings, grandparents and extended family – are involved in making decisions for members of the family. I've even seen it on this show: Phil or Kirstie takes the couple around but before they commit to a house they really like and can afford, they need to have all the relatives come and check it out and agree. So, I'm suggesting it's POSSIBLE that if they are from traditional families, they haven't – possibly? – been in a situation where they have to make a major life decision all on their own without input from family? They may just need the support of family to advise and help making a good judgment. Not saying that's bad; 20 heads may be better than one or two. But it MIGHT explain their seeming inability to make decisions themselves as a couple on their own? A culture in which they are used to older, wiser heads telling them 'this or that is good for you' and not being forced – as we are in European or Northern Hemisphere cultures – to stand on our own two feet and make decisions on our own, as a sign of our independence – that could explain their lack of realism and their inability to seem rational, compromise, and make a decision based on practical reality instead of just saying what they like or don't like in vague terms.

  18. Weird how when he said that beautiful house that they went back to was available, they didn't look at each other. Most couples would have looked at each other like, 'Are you as interested as I am?' But she didn't look at him, though he looked at her eventually. I think she's more the problem.

  19. Did they really want a house or did they just want to be on the telly. Hopefully the latter otherwise 17 (?) years on they‘re probably still searching.

  20. I spent over 30 years in the motor industry and had this type of indecisive, uncertain buyer on more than one occasion. I just felt like telling them to go home and leave me alone. So frustrating. Hats off to Phil and Kirstie for putting up with them.

  21. This is a total affirmation of intellect 100, intelligence 25. They must pay Kirstie and Phill a lot of dinero to put up with this BS. 🙈

  22. "The smiling assassin" — Kirsty certainly didn't hold back! And who can blame her? I would have become so irritated I might have thrown something (possibly through one of those dreadful multi-pane windows that almost all the Kent houses had).

  23. This episode is entertaining in one respect: I’m enjoying the thought of how their co-workers, including bosses, reacted to seeing this couple in person right after the episode first aired in the UK. Their utter lack of mature judgment in the house-hunting context would have raised serious questions for me as a boss about their judgment in the work world, too.

  24. it's like they were having a laugh at Phil and Kirstie's expenses, not nice at all and their stupid giggles are so annoying
