I just bought this unlabeled cactus from Walmart but noticed when I got it home that it didn't seem to have any kind of root holding it in place. Is there a chance this will be able to survive or should I return it?

You do reliazed some of your cactus are sitting too low in the pot right? They need to be sit up a bit.

That isn’t a cactus, it’s a euphorbia. The rare cactus collection by costa farms has a lot of lightly rooted pups with very small roots. That’s part of why they are cheap. The cactus from that collection have been the same, but I’ve had a 100% survival rate with maybe 8 or 10 plants from them. Replant it in a coarse well draining mix and it’ll do fine. I snagged one of those from my Walmart recently too 😃

What a great little guy….prop him on top in some good grit and let him go – higher in the pot with lots of good light!

euphorbia meloformis variegated. Yes, it should have better roots, but if you pot it in well draining soil and lightly water it, then it should grow some with time. Just make sure not to over water as there are not many roots to absorb water. Also, make sure it completely drys in between watering. Really, I’d suggest just doing some reading about their care. Good luck.
