It's good to have a reservoir at the bottom of every bucket an inch or 2 above the bottom, drill holes in the sides instead of the bottom.
My tomatoes didn't do well this year
I can't be the only one that feels relieved that even James makes silly mistakes in the garden.
All gardeners make mistakes.
Thank you James I also took certain things for granted and my Tom harvest was slightly hurt
This makes ME feel better. Give myself Grace😊
It's helpful to see the master's mistakes at times. 🙂
My biggest mistake was my peppers. I tried 8 bucket containers. The jalapeno, banana & habanero did ok, but I had 2 bell peppers & one poblano.
The poblano got a few SMALL peppers, but I got exactly 0 from the bell peppers! I don't understand why!? I was looking forward to those most.
Just eat those green beans that started to make big seeds as horticultural beans( remove the bean seeds from the pods, cook and eat.
Thanks for sharing the good, the bad & the ugly with us.
this video was so helpful!! As a newbie gardener it's easy to get discouraged and this video motivated me to learn from gardening mistakes- thank you!!!
Hi James! We all have done the same thing so don't feel bad. We know you get excited about the new project. What helped my friend focus is to plan her garden in the winter by drawing the beds the way she wants it for Spring.
Nothing complicated, just a rough drawing or use you can use a free app that helps you visualize your garden then come Spring, you can sow the seeds according to your plan and drawing. It's a good idea to keep a journal as well to see at what time of the year your pest load is heaviest and work around that among other things that you can tweak it up. Good luck with your new property. I am looking forward to seeing what you are up to. Keep up the good work 💪
At least you have free seed to try again!! I call that a win. 👍
This is part two. Please read my first message. But I have a question because I have been looking for a piece of land and haven't had luck. How were you able to purchase yours? I hope I am not being nosy. I just need suggestions. Thanks for everything you do. You always inspire us to grow and I do even though I live in an apartment complex in NC. We harvested cherry tomatoes, Tuscan Kale, Malabar spinach, peaches 🍑 from our pot, peppers, and small sweet peppers. I have basil indoors too. But I am planning for something different next year if I am still living here. I will keep you posted.
James you and Mr Charles Dowding are my heroes. Thank you
Thanks for showing your problems. Makes me feel ok about my problems. I'm getting better every year. Thanks James!
Thanks for coming clean. I'm in KY and have had a helluva season. I planted Honeynut Butternut squash and started off by overwatering, since it's been so dry here. Once I realized my error and stopped, my son thought our 5 gallon bucket of manure tea was something else… he thought it was used motor oil, so guess where he put his after his oil change… and I fertilized 6 butternut squash and 3 cukes with used motor oil. As soon as I realize that THIS SHIT IS NOT MANURE TEA, I removed as much soil as I could from the pots and replaced it with good soil. Two plants are setting fruit, but the others look pretty weak. Now the two good plants have powdery mildew.
I don't know if I have the nerve to make a good gardener…
This is an awesome video, I love seeing your honest review of your mistakes, just like the rest of us :)). Thanks 👍
james – peppers are NOT summer crops. they actually perennials and will not just die off at the end of the summer, it's the cold that kills them. if you put them in a pot, and bring them inside when it gets too cold, you can keep that pepper growing for several years. But peppers are tough, very tough – i literally ripped several out of the ground earlier this year and just dropped them in a bucket of water for a couple hours, then stuck them into new pots – and they all did fine. one of them is 10 feet tall now and still setting peppers. Transplant that one
Also – you can eat those squash leaves and stems, don't just toss them out when you think the plant it down.
Just to much on the go. You can only look after so much.
I highly recommend for beginners to grow determinate cherry tomatoes or any determinate varieties especially in pots.Plant low in the pot and slowly add more as the plants grow. Roots need lots of oxygen and check your water ph. Nitrate fertilizers are best for production.
Every year is different. Some winners, some losers.
3 words for those 'maters…. fried green tomatoes. YUMMY! Those are some GORGEOUS peppers!! Blessings from Texas. 🤠
