The cabin is 20' x 20' so I'm trying to save space where I can I think some kind of fold away stairs would be good but everything online looks like a hatch for an attic and I don't want to cut a hole in the floor.

Hear me out; one word: trampoline.

You could frame in fold down attic stairs on the right side. They’re $350-$500 at Lowes.

Why not do a ladder and make a cubicle style storage or shelving area under the ladder space built floor to ceiling

Just build a nice ladder. Put it wherever it fits. Ours is roughly center in the room, with the kitchen table up beside it.

Alternating tread stairs. It’s your best bet, they take a short while to get used to, but they are great. I built some with storage as well.

Ladder stairs work and don’t take up much space. Basically, build a wooden version of a good step ladder. Same spacing and angle, but with nice handrails that extend above the floor of the loft. Google probably has some nice examples. If I was at work, where we have several lofts with ladder stairs in cabins, I could post pictures.

Could do a rolling ladder like libraries have and pretend you’re in Beauty and the Beast. Easy to just shove out of the way.

Make it rope wall. It’s non invasive, cool looking and you could put it out at a slight angle for those drinky nights.

    I love those bookshelf steps

I would say either foldable stairs or… wait for it… a ladder. Hope this helps

You could hinge it at the rafters, put pulleys on the ceiling across the room, and run ropes to lift and lift it out of the way.

I wish I had pictures of what we built at our old home. We made a staircase that was hooked up to a winch so we could raise and lower them with ease. It worked so well.

What about a library ladder on a track? You could push it hither or thither or to or fro?

Just got a shed with a loft and am planning to make a quick “job site” style ladder out of 2x4s that can tuck up between the rafters of the loft when not on use.
