Here’s one way to get an endless supply of tomatoes. So, this is the first year that I’ve tried this and it actually worked. I sort of can’t believe it, but these right here are little plants that I grew from the mother plant. So, what you do is you take your snips and you grab what’s called a sucker. And suckers come out of the angles of the tomato. So, this is the main trunk. This is a branch. And this coming out at a 45°ree angle is the sucker. So, we’re going to cut that back right here. Now that I got my sucker, you can actually root this just by sticking it in the ground. All you need to do is strip the bottom branches off of it, dig a small hole, really about the same diameter as the branch itself, and you’re going to stick it down in there. And in no time, this is going to root into a new plant. And just to prove that it worked, I’m actually going to dig this one out because I am so curious what the roots look like on this. And check that out. This little cutting put out all these roots.

Good to know, thanks for sharing
The only problem is my growing season at best is 4 months before frost then the ground is frozen for 5 months so useless for me..
I 😃love your cat.
Did this for the first time in New Jersey a month ago and now have a full size plant with flowers
Leaves are branches?
Nothing i ever put to root grows, not even in water. No mater even if i use rooting hormone 😢
Aww a garden kitty 😺😍❤
Yes I did this and was impressed. I propagated the cutting in water first and the roots developed very quickly
Thank you for that vital information, God bless🕊️🇺🇲🙏🐎😉🍅💕
It does work for me too, even though I root in water.
Yes. I tried this and now I currently have more Tomato plants than I'll probably ever need this season 😂
You can actually do that with any branch of the tomato plant. All the little hair like things on the stems will grow into roots when put in the soil or water. I have had tall stems bend or break and cut them and put them in soil and keep it moist. Don’t put in direct sun, it will wilt a little but after a few days it will perk back up and start growing. it’s a good way to use a broken plant, I’ve done it for years.
🎉
This is how I plan to have next years plants. When it gets cold, I’ll take cuttings and root them in pots and put them on a windowsill to grow. During the winter I’ll keep them under a grow light. This entire time I’ll prune for shape to keep it small but strong. Then once it’s warm enough to plant them, I will. I bought a 300 mix of tomato seeds and so I get the benefit of trying several varieties a year. This way I can keep one I like without cross pollination chances. At least until I get a setup to keep the flowers separated from the other tomatoes
com 7 anos de idade ja sabia disto kkkkkkkk !!! por isso falo que quem é do campo , em breve sera considerado genio HAHAHAHA !!!!
Awesome!
An awesome short mini clip of tomatoes tips. Finally i get to not only understand what a sucker is, but actually see it clearly on a close up. Something that others talk on here, but fail to visibly sjow it on camera.
Thank you so much for sharing knowledge and info with us, and allowing us to see what you're explaining.
I use plant pots with moist soil and place the suckers in them. I keep them indoors. A transparent plastic bag over the plant helps prevent it from drying out. With Clonex, it only takes a week or so for enough roots to grow, and the plant can be moved outside.
Does it works for determinate tomatoes
When my tomatoes come to an end, it means it's September and the first morning frost has killed them. Grow zones 🤷♀️
Great if you live in florida.
How long did it take to develop those roots you showed?
How long the plant survives
Did the same!!!
You dorfot to mention the most important part. You have to WATER IT OFTEN TILL IT TAKES ROOT.
YES THEY ARE KINDA LIKE PUPPS.
I LIKE TO LEAVE ONE OF MY TOMATO PLANTS TO GROW WILD AND PROPAGATE , THE REST I LIKE TO PRUNE THE SUCKERS AND FOCUS THEM ON PRODUCTION AND QUALITY.❤❤❤❤❤
That’s a good way to ruin your snips, before I plant the plant I set it in a cup to get the roots going, very likely it dries out if you plant it right after cutting it.
It really works. I do it every year.. now I haven’t been fortunate enough to carry any of these through the winter, but I might try this year🥰 thanks for posting
I did tried this year and it does work. It doesn't fruit yet, but will seeeee.
If ya water it with willow water it'll help speed the rooting
Ok those are the midnights right? So how long does it take for the bottoms of them to change color?
Can you contact me. You know who I am Josh.
I cut 8 and rooted them in water, today they will be planted. It was so easy and the mother plant loves to be trimmed for better fruit. Thanks
This works! I broke a plant off when planting it, si what's therre to loose? I planted it and it's doing very well! You are so right! 🙂
Pinch the lower leaves off, and any flowers, so the plant can focus energy on growing roots
But the only reason it'll work you have to get the first few suckers early in the year at start the plant won't have time to develop and bear fruit you can't wait till the middle or latter part of the year because it won't have time to grow and bear fruit just saying
I'm in Texas. I did this exact same thing recently. I propagated five dragon fruit cactus cuttings off of what was otherwise an old and diseased plant. Two months later, four out of the five cuttings have re-rooted and have just started growing new branches.
Imma get you Sucka
we just make a salad
Has to be humid enough! Rooting hormone or honey ,We use plastic to domes to clone plants!! 90 to 100% success rate!
Same genetics as the mother plant!!
Rinse and repeat!
You want to cut it at a 45 angle & scrape the bottom 1/4” of the clone/sucker.
Dipping it into honey helps out a lot.
If I had a dime for every time I’ve seen this method…
I’ve never had success with this. The sucker will usually stay alive for weeks, but will barely grow if at all. Especially when I tried suckers that big. It seems that the roots didn’t develop quick enough to sustain the energy the leaves needed to survive and thrive. And when I tried smaller suckers, they usually wilted before any roots could develop enough to save it. And I tried different length of stem buried, none worked.
