What’s making these holes in the leaves? I live in the Mojave Desert area of Southern California, so it gets hot here, but the plant has been healthy-looking all year, and suddenly these holes developed. They’re only in the top leaves of the plant. The lower leaves still look healthy. The third picture is the healthy leaves for reference.

Been wondering the same thing myself, both my heritage red and Fall gold plants have been having similar issues.
Japanese beetles, maybe? If it were here in Maine I’d say for sure but I don’t know if you get them, out there.
Flea beetle, it looks like. But i only see them in early summer. I bet someone knows. Sorry, I don’t
