I forgot this avocado seed was in the cupboard (wrapped in a wet paper towel inside a small ziplock bag). Found it today after maybe 4 months? Just put it in a cup of water but would this be a good candidate for hydroponic? Any tips for transplanting? I’d hate to kill it with kindness after it thrived for so long on absolute neglect.

Wrong subreddit, but i have grown a couple and will give you some tips. You can leave it in the cup of water for a while. Put it in a sunny window and change the water often. When it has a few leaves, you can put it in a small pot of soil. Give it more light and a little fertilizer. Protect it from cold temperatures.
If you want to eat good avocados soon, go buy a grafted tree. Avocado Trees grown from seed can take a long time to fruit or might not ever give good fruit.
