My girlfriend gave me this mini rose plant a couple weeks ago and for some reason the leaves are yellowing and the petals are dry on the edges. I’ve been trying to trim off any parts of the plant that look unhealthy but looks like whatever it is has been continuing to spread. Is it dying? It came in a self-watering pot and I’ve kept it in there along with it’s original soil. I make sure to keep an eye on the water levels. I’ve been keeping it indoors by a window that gets light like half of the day I think?

Ok, so the problem is that roses don’t do well indoors. No matter what. They can do ok, but will never thrive. I also had mini roses in pots indoors for a long time, they did ok, sometimes produced a flower or two, but their leaves were always falling off and they never really grew well.
Recently I repotted them and put them outside in the sun on my deck. I’ve never seen so much leaf growth, they were bare when I put them outside there like three weeks…..maybe a month ago, and now they are just producing so much growth. One already flowered and there’s new buds on both of them.
It kind of sucks. I’d love to keep small roses indoors, and I guess I can, roses are hardy plants, but it will never really like it indoors.
Out of all my mini roses I got in my life, only one manage to live. It gets the maximum of sun it can get, which is roughly 8 hrs but most description says they need at-least 6hrs of sunlight.

She’s thornless and at least 15 years old. Once a while she’ll grow new stems from the bottle.
So give them a bigger pot with some good draining soil. They like to stay moist but not wet. Plenty of drainage holes. Plenty of sun.
I’ll repeat the same thing, these are not meant to be indoor plants. Lack of light and overwatering will cause the foliage to turn yellow. Cutting it off won’t make any difference. It’s not a disease, so it’s not going to spread to other leaves.
1. Drainage. That pot in pot situation never works well, roots can’t breathe. 2. Needs more light.
