Dobbies Garden Centre is hosting a series of free seasonal workshops next month.
The events, suitable for all ages and abilities, will be held at its Shepton Mallet store in October.
The Grow How sessions, titled ‘Caring for your autumn garden,’ will run on Wednesday, October 1, and Saturday, October 4, at 10.30am and 3.30pm.
The workshops will focus on protecting plants, preparing soil for winter, and seasonal planting.
They will include a live demonstration and a Q&A with a member of Dobbies’ Green Team.
Nigel Lawton, plant buyer at Dobbies, said: “Autumn is a great time of year in the gardening calendar and our free-to-attend workshops at the Shepton Mallet store showcase just how accessible and fun this hobby is.
“These sessions are designed for gardeners of all ages and abilities.
“This month’s Little Seedlings Club will be a fun way for children to discover the gross side of gardens, and October’s Grow How session will be very beneficial for those unsure of how to prepare their garden on the lead up to winter, or how to care for your garden tools during the cold months.”
Attendees will learn about autumn pruning, winter garden preparation, and seasonal planting strategies.
Places for the session can be reserved at dobbies.com/events.
The October Little Seedlings Club session, called ‘Gross Gardens,’ will take place on Sunday, October 5.
Designed for children aged four to 10, the session explores the spookier side of gardens just in time for Halloween.
Children will learn about creepy crawlies, smelly plants, and the important role fungi play in soil health and wildlife support.
The workshop will highlight how compost, worms, and beetles contribute to a healthy garden ecosystem.
The sessions are interactive and hands-on, and attendees will also get the opportunity to create their own mini compost jar, and take part in a fun and ‘gross’ garden quiz.
Spaces for the Little Seedlings Club workshops can also be reserved through the Dobbies website.
