Bangladesh Bonsai Society has organised a three-day bonsai exhibition to promote gardening at the Women’s Voluntary Association Auditorium in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
The 24th edition of the annual exhibition, which began on Thursday, is displaying more than 500 bonsai trees created by 35 members of the organisation.
The event was inaugurated by renowned painter Abul Barak Alvi.
Renowned singer Abida Sultana and first secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh Komine Ken were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Mostly bonsai trees are created from Banyan, White Fig (pakur), Tamarind, Arjun and Murraya Paniculata (kamini) trees, but members of our organisation also focus on local trees, including Tejapatta (tamal), Ghurni and Seora, said general secretary of Bangladesh Bonsai Society Mohammad Anisul Hoque.
‘In cities, we can experience nature by gardening. A lot of bonsai trees can be placed in small places like balconies or roofs,’ said Anisul.
The displayed bonsai trees are available on sale at the exhibition, which ends today.
