There’s a slight chill in the air and that can mean only one thing – the countdown to Christmas has begun. Oh yes, we might be three months away, but all the planning, marketing and logistics of Crimbo have already been decided long in advance. So don’t fret at the end of summer and looming dark nights and inky black morning commutes on the Tube – let the Christmas spirit take over.
All the high streets of London have their grand Christmas lights switch-on ceremonies and a few have already confirmed dates. Carnaby Street will switch on its captivating Christmas lights on Thursday, November 6, ushering in the festive season at the globally recognised cultural, shopping and dining destination in the heart of Soho.
With its independent boutiques and London’s best dining spots dazzling under the glow of the Christmas lights, the iconic streets will be transformed for the season, blending festive tradition with the modern charm of Soho and capturing the true essence of Christmas in London.

Last year, Carnaby Street unveiled a ground-breaking, design-led Christmas lights installation, set to evolve over the next five years. For 2025, Carnaby Street will reveal the next chapter of the state-of-the-art installation, introducing a fresh and enchanting display, that will delight seasonal visitors and Londoners alike. Further details to be announced soon.
Elsewhere, Covent Garden has announced its Christmas lights switch-on on Wednesday, November 12, telling followers on Instagram: “With 100 days to go, we’re prepping for a magical festive season with our world-famous decorations. Expect over 300,000 sparkling lights, the return of our much-loved bells, and the iconic 55ft British-grown Christmas tree. Our switch-on event will launch The Theatre Of Christmas. Stay tuned for more information.”
Alongside its famous display, Covent Garden is delighted to welcome back Miracle at Henrietta Experimental, returning bigger, brighter, and more fabulous than ever.
The sell-out festive favourite doubles in size this year, moving to a new home at 10 Henrietta Street to transform London’s favourite kitsch Christmas cocktail bar into an even more dazzling winter wonderland. Marking the 100-day countdown, bookings open on Tuesday, September 16.
