Hi all!

This is my rubber tree that I am very fond of. I did get it as a pretty substantially sized plant back in April.

The issue I'm running into is that a bunch of leaves are falling off; however, at the same time, there is a lot of new growth happening as well. The first 2 pictures show the new growth. The third shows where the leaves have been falling from, and the 4th shows what the leaves that fall look like.

The plant gets pretty bright, indirect light most of the day. I bottom water whenever everything looks/feels dry (if anything, I underwater so I don't think its an overwatering issue). There was a mild mealybug problem a few weeks ago, but that was easily taken care of with some alcohol. Its not 100% gone but I'd say about 95% gone.

I hope someone can help me! I would love to keep this plant πŸ™‚ Thanks in advance!

Could the roots be too tight? It looks like a big plant, maybe it needs a bigger pot lenghtwise, it looks deep but small.
(Definetely not an expert, I have a garden but all my plants are on the ground and not in pots)

These guys usually drop leaves when their roots are staying moist for too long, or they’re being watered too frequently.

Have you tried letting it stay dry for longer?

Also, light exposure changes over the year, as do watering needs.

Have you recently moved it? Mine can be a real drama queen when I move it at all.
It might be time for a good pruning. It will allow it to branch AND you can get the added bonus of new plants. Just pop the top pruning into a jar of water. Pull all but one or two leaves.
