SOMERVILLE, NJ — After meeting at a wedding and having a similar love for florals, it was inevitable that the friendship between Disha Mistry and Trisha Singh of Bridgewater would eventually blossom into a floral workshop business.
“We both have this interest in florals. And we thought, what this area needs is more things to do. There are lots of restaurants and stuff, but there aren’t a lot of activities,” said Mistry to Patch.
The pair recently opened Bloom Bazaar in Somerville, which offers floral workshops, small events, and custom floral design services.
“For me, I love having a bouquet in the house, and just having something to liven up the space,” said Singh. “I like the idea of being able to share that with other people and maybe introducing that to them as well.”
The workshops are designed to help teach locals about different flowers, how to set up a vase, and really walk them through building a bouquet.
Additionally, some of the workshops will offer different types of floral work, such as Ikebana, a Japanese floral arranging design, or flower crowns and hand-tied bouquets.
“We’re hoping to give them access to flowers that maybe they wouldn’t normally find, and learn a little bit about how those work, too,” said Mistry.
Care for the flowers and the arrangements is also taught.
“How to make it last a little bit longer, and how to take care of the flowers. So you really get the most value out of the bouquet,” said Singh. “We’re hoping that people walk away with the skill to recreate it as many times as they want, at home or for friends.”
A Bloom Bouquet Bar rental is also offered for private events, where a bouquet bar is set up with everything guests need to create their own bouquet to take home. And if interested, Singh or Mistry can also be at the event to help guests make the bouquets.
Mistry and Singh are hoping to blossom new friendships through their workshops and bring people together.
“I think a big part is like building more community in our area,” said Mistry. “I am hoping that people don’t feel like they have to come with their friend, they can come and meet another group of people who have similar interests and do something that’s mindful and creative. And also learn a new skill, and bring home something really beautiful at the end of it.”
