It comes after an application was brought to the council with regard to Rowan Tree Garden World in Dalry.

The bypass premises, which sits adjacent to the A737, was previously operated by David Castelvecchi and Abi Cox.

The duo took over the iconic roadside location, which was previously known as the Graze restaurant, in 2013.

It formed part of their wider operations which included the Rowan Tree Restaurant and Garden Centre on the A78 in Ardrossan as well as Haylie Stores in Largs.

Though the Dalry store has been out of action in recent years, closing around the time that the town’s new bypass was constructed.

The pair have also moved on from operations in Ardrossan, with that business sold to GRO Coffee boss Gordon Rennie in autumn of 2024.

At that time, David and Abi teased future plans to expand their Rowan Tree operations – with the re-opening of their Dalry branch seemingly the first step in doing so.

A planning application has been lodged which would see various changes to the bypass location.

These include the creation of a polytunnel, which would be used for plant sales.

It is also proposed that new fencing would be erected around the site and parking arrangements around the centre are reconfigured and formalised.

At present, there are no ‘official’ parking spots in the area surrounding the building.

It is proposed that 17 lined spaces would be added to the location which would not impact the existing access point on Brownhill Road.

The planned polytunnel would be placed to the left-hand side of the premises and provide 180sq m of space.

Application documents also detail that the current service yard to the rear of the business would reduce in size allowing for further outdoor sales space to be created.

Few changes are planned for the building itself – where sales will also be conducted – though the current kitchen within is to be transformed into further storage space.

The proposals are currently with North Ayrshire Council and are pending consideration.

It is anticipated that a decision will be made on the plans by mid-November this year.
