A McKinleyville Botanical Garden Workday is set for Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. in Hiller Park. The garden features many native species. Volunteering at this small community driven botanical garden helps create habitat for bees, birds, butterflies and other little creatures, while adding beauty to the environs. Current tasks include weeding, light pruning and deadheading some perennials. Bring a bucket and garden tool, if you can. To get to the garden, go west on Hiller Road to the parking lot for Hammond Trail/the soccer fields and the dog park. The garden is adjacent to the playground. The workday will be canceled if it’s raining. Pictured at the garden is sulphur buckwheat with a yellow-faced bumblebee.
