I think it is from inconsistent watering. I always get these lines on my late season tomatoes once it starts raining and and my irrigation schedule is thrown ofd

Yeah, most likely overwatering and/or temperature swings

In some varieties, such as Black Krim, it’s nearly impossible to avoid this kind of concentric ring cracking when growing outdoors. I’ve come to expect some degree of it in my Black Krims. Your tomatoes will still be delicious despite their “battle scars.”

It’s from over watering and a lot of heat. Tomatoes need HUMDITY. When I grew tomatoes in CA this is what happened because they would get water in the morning and very hot direct sun in the afternoon. I ended up buying some cotton sheets and making tents over my tomatoes and making sure the sheets were soaked. I also watered only at night about 3x per week instead of every morning like my auromatic water system was doing.

  5. It’s called Tomato Stitching. If the tomato is heavily watered in the morning and it gets too hot during the day, it will get a small split. This will then heal and the process will repeat itself.

  6. Mine are doing the same thing I water when I get off of work . Personally I think it’s the heat the ones lower on the plant aren’t having that issue .

  7. I’ve got a mystery variety that does that a ton! It just seems to be the watering that does it

Yeah it’s splitting. An influx of water stretches it and it sort of gets stretch marks. Stable watering helps but I have a drip system and it still happens. Seems to be common in the larger slicing varieties. Purely cosmetic. It will still taste great.

My Black Krims are similar, not surprised.
