I am seeing a lot of advertisements for what looks like a really handy ‘chainsaw’ style, small branch pruner. I am suspicious as the company say they’ve been around for 35 years, making tools for Australian gardeners, yet this seems to be their only tool… I think Ryobi make something similar. Has anyone out there actually bought, or used one of these? I’d love feedback…

I got my ~70yo mum one of these (ryobi though) and she loves it. she has been trimming trees and shrubs and it’s light, but powerful, so she can use it for longer without me having to give her a hand with a bigger chainsaw
Are you seeing these ads on social media?
If so, they’re likely drop shipping cheap products from China (Temu/Alibaba) and re-branding.
Personally I would avoid such a product
Don’t buy any from online retailers. Those lithium batteries can be literal fire bombs if they fail, buy one from a reputable retailer.
I use a Stihl one at work and it is awesome.
Just buy a reciprocating saw with pruning blades. It’ll work with your preferred battery system and has the advantage of being able to double as doing demo work around the home when needed.
I bought one the other day from mitre 10.
It didn’t break the bank and it performs better than I expected. It’s a 24v cordless saw so it’s got some grunt for the bigger branches. Well worth going somewhere local to buy one.
I bought something similar online last year. Came with 2 batteries – which turn out to be ESSENTIAL. Really wouldn’t recommend it as both batteries are flat within 10 minutes, sawing through branches smaller than my wrist.
However, if you’re going to buy a “good” brand (Makita), be prepared to pay a lot. As usual in this world, you get what you pay for.
Get a good brand
Ryobi make these. As do most reputable brands My Dad got a set of Ryobi electric pruners, like, actual shears. I was sceptical at first but, holeee sheeeit! those things will cut through shit almost as thick as my wrist, and it ain’t a small, girly wrist. Those pruners are cool as hell but kinda scary in action. #awesome.
