With all the rain and heat this summer I just let the plants in my backyard go a little wild… I didn't plant these but I think they are White Snakeroot?
Yes, the Carpenter bees are huge. The American bumblebee is about the same size of it, huge compared to the other bumbles. I don’t know what that plant is, but it’s pretty. Hope it’s native, then it’s a keeper!

It does look like Snakeroot. I have some that volunteered as well. I don’t exactly like them but late season insect food is a nice quality.

Carpenter bees are so dumb, I love them. Theyâre like goofy flying Great Danes or something.

You can download iNaturalist to accurately identify your plants, critters, bugs, and more. Itâs fun knowing the names of things and itâs free. Itâs especially important for native plant gardeners in order to spot invasive like Japanese Knotweed (BAD) which is so similar to Catalpa (GOOD), for example. And you can easily catalog your biome and spread the good news to research communities.
Bees are greatly underestimated by most gardeners. You might think the bee is a carpenter bee, but your native garden will support entire native bee populations and distinct species. Bumblebee species are so diverse. Your carpenter bee might really be a Lemon Cuckoo Bumblebee đ or a Brown Belted Bumblebee. Until you identify it, you wonât know how much good you are doing.
I’m the slow pike on hikes because I’m documenting my finds on i-naturalist. It and Merlin are the best apps ever.

Thank you all for confirming it’s white snakeroot! I did some googling before posting and was hoping I was correct since they are a native flower and good food source. Plus they are a really cute little flower.
