We just closed on this house and since we first looked at it I was thinking of trying to use this space underneath the sun room better.

I was thinking of excavating down a few feet, walling up between the columns, putting some stone down and using it as an outdoor storage area. The left side is 12’ between house and column and the front side is 6’ between columns.

Is there a risk of exposing the water table digging down deep enough to walk under there? Would exposing the columns a few feet down compromise their strength, even if I built brick walls between them and tied in with rebar?

All advice welcome, thanks.

Store a bunch of shit down there

Looks like a good spot to store a lawn mower and some bicycles.

Box it in or part of it in to make it into a shed.

Whatever you end up doing, don’t block those windows too much.

    Leprechaun themed decorations.

I’d commission someone to make miniature deck furniture and make it a conversation piece.

Honestly, it’ll already work as a cold storage for ladders and bikes and other shit. Put up some lattice or string up some wire and start training grapes or trumpet vine to grow across the front (this second option would require yanking up some of those pavers to put in a bed). Stash your stuff. Be a pain to move around under there, but excavating and building up a retaining wall will be even more of a pain.

You can also close it up with a screen and call it a deluxe catio.

lil stage and small pole for midget strippers, could even build a midget sniffers row for lil dudes that want to get up close and personal . . .

Perfect MG42 nest. Sandbags, 2 MGs should do. One facing the open flank, the other towards the middle for field cover. Wall up the other flank.

Get on Pinterest for some ideas, also have a look at houses for sale and see what adds value to a home in your new area. Storage, green room, activity area, outdoor sports lounge, bar, cinema, chill spot with fairy lights… so many options! Have fun and congrats on your new home ❤️

You could fence it in and put monkeys in there.

I would certainly not dig near the posts to risk compromising the structure of the sun room. It’s not worth it even if the risk is low (is it low?)

Whatever you put there find some creative lighting.
