This hurts, complete renovation on 6000 sqft front lawn, finished yesterday. I rented skid steer last Monday to completely level and regrade, forecast said chance of rain on Wednesday. But it rained that night, I left huge ruts in soil Tuesday morning driving skid steer off lawn. Made things worse trying to fix them, eventually gave up after eight hours of just turning the mud around when it started raining again. I gave it a couple of days to completely dry out. On Sunday weather app said rain Wednesday, sunny otherwise, I got to work and Roto tilled everything. Then level by hand, seeded and applied compost, finised up yesterday morning. Suddenly severe storms appear in forecast. It rained overnight and there’s 4 inches predicted in the next 24 hours couple of bucks and a lot of hard work literally going down the drain.

Sheeeeeesh. Sorry to hear. These things are never without challenges. ALWAYS something. You going to give it another go? What are you seeding with? If it’s perennial rye, at least it doesn’t take long for germination!

What’s this water stuff falling from above? I’m from Connecticut so I’m not familiar with this.

Watching a literal river carry your seed away in the last shot 😂

    Sorry about the lawn dude

    Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge!

So sorry man, that has to be so defeating. If it makes you feel any better I put down $500+ worth of grass seed for my fall renovation and then proceed to destroy it by burning it with fertilizer because I rushed the math and missed a decimal point. 🙁

At least you didn’t cause your own failure.

  5. I had good luck with my overseed in terms of rain. But now 5 weeks later it doesn’t rain. What is the minimum seed I can apply to summon a down pour like this? #GoingBrokeBuyingWater

Oh man I can feel your pain, this sucks but don’t lose faith just go back out there after the rain and readjust things if need be and throw down some more seeds…it’s not late! Good luck!

Has anyone else noticed that weather forecasts have become less and less reliable? Not to feed politics into this but in June the Trump administration and DoD terminated access to its Defense Meteorological Satellite Program. The DMSP is critical in weather forecasting, typically for just hurricanes but I wonder if it’s inhibiting regular weather forecasting.

Similar thing happened to me last fall. We have a decent slope in our backyard, aerated, leveled, seeded the whole 9. 3 days later it washed straight into my neighbors yard who doesn’t do jack with their yard.. next spring they had the best looking lawn.

I feel your pain – but there’s still time this fall. You got this

That happened to me in late spring after early spring seeding. Destroyed everything. Broke my friggin heart. But I went back at it in early August and, as of now, it’s looking really good. Hang with it brother.

Same shit happened to me this spring.

Fuck you in particular, and your lawn. -God probably.

I remember standing outside in a storm a few years ago, watching my seed floating down the street.

These days I put down straw and it really helps, especially if I water it down well right after I put it down.

I did my renovation last Monday. Luckily most of it germinated overnight Friday. But theres some spots that I haven’t been able to water that haven’t come up yet. Im hoping it germs tonight or tomorrow before the heavier rain comes in tomorrow night.

This is about to be me on a way smaller scale. 3 days of heavy rain about to come 2 days after a lot of labor. I can’t imagine your disappointment.

My first year in Seattle I got my timing all wrong. If I remember correctly I had to redo my process four times before it stuck. It’s worth the extra headache in the end, I promise.

  17. This has happened to me a few times, hurricane always seems to bring torrential rain this time of year. I feel your pain.

  18. This happened last year when I was renovating the side yard at my parents’ house. Finished the whole thing then we had almost two straight weeks of complete torrential downpour.

Is putting down straw a big no-no in this subreddit? I’ve redone my entire lawn and without straw, the rain and wind would have washed everything away. My lawn looks fantastic and wouldn’t be the same without putting something down after seeding.

Not sure it would’ve helped in this drastic downpour but it definitely works for me.
