Hello. Fairly new to grafting… Displayed in the pictures are some Decosta Vari. Grafts I did early in the season. The tip has had considerable growth while the mid piece has only plumped.
The picture with the flat stick indicating tip growth. I have other mid cuts that have pupped…my question is:
*should i in this case slice out the grafted joint and realign the vascular rings? As it is the only reason i can think of for not pupping.
Thank you kindly for your input.

Personally I would cut it off and start again. Sections farther down the cactus will not get bigger than they currently are. So if it continues to get larger on top it will eventually crumple.

How much light is it getting? Typically for new growths they grow out like that once they get the sun they need (area above ruler). If you do start again make sure the new cactus graft is at its full size. It seems the one you added needed some light and it finally grew to the height to get it.

The rootstock on the graft in question is corked up pretty good, and photosynthetic material is minimal/covered in corking etc. the greener it is the faster it’s gonna grow, personally I would remove this and start it over on a strong chunky rootstock (green and growing fast)
