RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Urban Roots is hosting its Little Gardener sessions this season.
It’s a chance for kids two to five years old to learn the basics of gardening, insects, flowers, herbs, cooking, and so much more. Kids and their parents or guardians participate in various activities expanding their own senses just by playing in the dirt and cooking.
Those at Urban Roots say it’s programs like this that get the kids starting young and an early understanding of where food comes from that will last them a lifetime. “Our little farmers and little gardeners, some of them have been with us throughout their entire childhood, so they start here at three years old in one of our little programs and then move into the farm camps, and then they graduate, some of them have even become interns and then educators,” says Zak Shellhammer community engagement coordinator.
Classes take place at the Urban Roots teaching farm off 1700 E 2nd Street, Reno NV 89502. They take place twice a month on Fridays. To sign up, click here.
