A home gardener was left baffled after sharing how just one adjustment to the way she grew her own carrots left her with an impressive sized one.
No matter where you harvest them, whether it’s in your garden, allotment or on a balcony, carrots will always keep you guessing about their size until the moment of truth when you pull them from the earth, making for an exciting anticipation as you pull it out of the soil. Amy, a home gardener from Norfolk, decided to tweak her potting technique this year in hopes of growing particularly large carrots. And it seems her efforts have paid off well.
Amy captured the harvest of her season’s first carrot on video for her 266,000 followers. The footage shows her gripping the pipe where the carrot was planted and tugging at the tops until the carrot finally emerged from the soil.
She quickly burst out into laughter as she continued to pull out the seemingly never-ending carrot out of the pipe.
“Oh my God,” she chuckled, holding the carrot against her leg to demonstrate its impressive length. “Dear Lord.”

She then proudly held up the carrot to show someone off-camera, clearly taken aback by its size, and compared it to the pipe it was grown in, showing it nearly filled the entire length.
“Honestly, if this video doesn’t show the joy of growing your own, I don’t know what will! I gave my best evil-belly laugh when I finally pulled it out!” she penned in the caption of the video.
So, what was her secret?
In May 2025, Amy shared a video of herself sowing carrot seeds and revealed her strategies for hopefully cultivating a large carrot. She made some alterations to her previous year’s approach, including allowing them to mature in her greenhouse.
“She’s doing it again! This past weekend, I sowed my giant Manpukuji carrots except this time, I’m trying the greenhouse!” she disclosed in the post’s caption.
She continued: “I grew them for the first time last year in a barrel in a sunny spot and they grew well BUT, I think I can do better. They like it warm so I’m trying these drainpipes in the greenhouse. I spent forever sieving soil and filling the pipes.”
Amy wasn’t the only one taken aback by the size of her carrot, as numerous people swiftly commented on the post to express their thoughts.
“That’s so fun! Love your reaction too!!! one person said. Another viewer also wrote: “WOWSERS! Well done! We’ve seen some whopping carrots this season from our Manpukuji seeds!”
“I’m half part disturbed and greater half impressed,” a third person commented.
