Two people were rescued after their boat capsized off Garden Island on Tuesday morning.

Police responded after water police officers intercepted a mayday call on the marine distress radio channel about 10.15am.

Water police coordinated air assets and rescue vessels to assist in locating the vessel in distress.

“A local commercial fishing vessel located the recreational vessel with two persons sitting on top of the upturned hull,” a police spokeswoman said.

“Both were wearing lifejackets.”

The pair were taken aboard the commercial fishing vessel before being brought back to shore.

St John WA took them to Fiona Stanley Hospital but it is believed they were not seriously injured.
