Are you trying to identify a fungus? If so, /r/mycology may be of more help. Fungi aren’t plants — they have their own kingdom just like animals and bacteria.

Birds nest! Idk what it is about black mulch but these guys LOVE it. Only place I’ve ever found them is on black mulch.

Just a word of caution, it’s probably best to avoid picking up unidentified plants/fungi with your bare hands. Never know what kind of reaction they might cause.

Why are you touching it with bare hands?!?!

The cutest fungus. Look for the ones that still have the “eggs” inside 🥹

In the landscaping industry I’ve heard It called “artillery fungus” because the caps burst off as they mature, launching the little beads into the air. They’ll cover the siding of a structure and aren’t easy to get off. The ones in the photo have already “fired.”

Just another name for birds nest fungi, btw.

Nature really has some wild designs, those tiny cups with little eggs inside look straight out of a fantasy movie. Id honestly never guess theyre fungi until seeing posts like this.

Bugle sprouts, when they’re fully grown they get bagged up and sold.
