They make a decent jelly, although need mixing with apple to make them a bit milder.
I also make sloe wine before. Can’t remember exactly what it was like, but it was definitely drinkable (needed about a year to mature, though).

If you are going to do anything at all with them, freeze them overnight first. Like many wild fruits this makes them much more palatable.

Related question: when do people think they’ll be ready this year? Normally I wouldn’t pick them until at least October (I don’t always wait for the first frost), but everthing is out of whack this year.
