POTSDAM — Students from SUNY Potsdam’s WISER Center began work on the gardens at the historic 1844 House on Saturday.

WISER Coordinator Ray Bowdish and Executive Chef Amy Conger led a walkthrough to discuss ideas and strategies for restoring the gardens, with a focus on pollinators and rejuvenating the gardens.

The student team included Garrett O’Hara, Gabby Mazzullo, Logan Kinney, Annabel Ubeda, Kendyll Mack, Nico Petroccione and Maddie Healy.

The group removed invasive vines, thinned overgrown plants to give hostas more space to thrive, and cleared weeds and flowers crowding the sidewalks.

Plants taken from the gardens will be used to start pollinator gardens on the SUNY Potsdam campus and throughout the community.

Organizers said this is just the beginning of the project, with more work planned in the coming weeks to rejuvenate the gardens.
