I decided to spruce up my garden earlier this year, transforming a muddy corner that doesn’t see much sunlight into a fenced-off play area. Problem solved, right? Not quite. Despite the play area being great, one issue quickly arose – on a windy day, the fencing essentially acts as a trap for what seems like every leaf in the neighbourhood. It’s a problem that’s only going to worsen over autumn.

Naturally, as a one-year-old, my son Teddy has a habit of putting anything he picks up straight into his mouth, so I was eager to find a quick fix to the leaf problem. I already had a corded leaf blower that is quite robust and excellent for clearing away things like hedge and grass clippings, reports the Mirror.

The trouble is, it’s a bit fiddly setting it up, as I have to fetch it from the garage and get out an extension lead – not something you want to be doing daily. In search of a simpler, and faster, solution for clearing leaves and general debris tossed around by the wind, I turned to the McGregor Cordless Garden Leaf Blower, purchasing it from Argos for £50.

I’ve since discovered a method to snag it for an even lower price of £34.38 using TopCashback, more on that later. I must confess, I’ve been thoroughly impressed overall.

The cordless and battery-powered design makes it easy to grab from the cupboard and tidy up the play area in a matter of minutes. While it may not pack as much punch as my corded model, it’s more than capable of swiftly clearing leaves and tidying everything up ,and is incredibly easy to operate.

You simply choose your desired power setting from one to six (naturally, I always just ramp it up to the maximum), press the button and you’re off. It has solid power and is incredibly useful for giving the garden a quick tidy.

Initially, I noticed a slight ache in my hand after pressing the button for a few minutes, only to realise it has a feature to lock the button on so you don’t have to keep it pressed down. My only minor quibble is that the battery doesn’t last ages.

It’s more than adequate to blast the debris scattered around the garden into oblivion, but if you’re planning to use it for a prolonged period, you might be better off choosing a corded option like the Lazy-Leaf Electric Garden Leaf Blower, priced at £39.95 at B&Q.

That model features a vacuum function and a catch bag, making it a more appealing option for gardeners who want to gather the leaves and bin them.

If you’re keen for the reassurance that comes with well-known brands, Amazon stocks Dewalt’s 18V XR Compact Blower, though for a heftier £66.98. It features a design centred on being remarkably light, making it an attractive choice for those concerned about weight.
