The event was run by the Rhydlewis and District Gardening Club on Tuesday, August 26, bringing together growers who excelled in their efforts.
The judges for the day, Dr Bob and Rannveig Wallis, had the challenging task of choosing the best from a range of categories, including vegetables, fruits, flowers, and homemade items.
In the vegetable category, Gwen Thomas scooped up the award for white potatoes, while Gary Soltys won coloured potatoes, and Georgia Heath’s marrow was deemed the best exhibit in classes 1-19.
Jim Milton won the most points in classes 1-19.
Janet Piggott was awarded the Floral Challenge Award for amassing the most points in classes 22-26.
The photography category saw Sue Davies win first place for her photo ‘A Bridge’ and both first and second places for ‘Clouds’.
The painting categories were dominated by Doreen Driscol, who took home first place for her painting ‘Native Wildlife’.
Sophie Heath showcased her skills in the homecraft categories, winning numerous awards for her handmade wind chime, bracelet, focaccia, fruit crumble, a cake with a vegetable ingredient, and four decorated cupcakes.
Sophie also shared the Liz Blackler Award for most points in classes 29-44 with Sue Davies and won the D and G Homecraft Award for most points in classes 35-46.
The event also featured a children’s class, where Georgia Heath won for her four decorated cupcakes and a picture made from buttons and string.
A new award, the People’s Choice, was also introduced this year, allowing attendees to vote for their favourite exhibit in the hall.
This award went to Dilys Davies for her dahlias.
