I’ve had this coleus growing in my backyard and it looks stunning in the landscape, but it was getting overgrown.

Also, I’ve had this idea to create a plant like the one in this video since forever. And finally got a chance to put it together.

Here’s how I did it

✂️ I started by pruning the mother plant back and shaping it so that when it grows back, it has that nice butterball, round shaped to it.

🌱 Then I took the largest 3 cuttings and trimmed them up, making sure I always made my bottom cut under the node. Don’t worry. Yes the rest of the cuttings were put to use and you’ll see them in a future video.

🪨 Next I was off to the soil, and I mixed up equal parts of peat, coir and perlite.

🪴Then I filled a small pot with the mix I created.

💈And started to braid the 3 cuttings.

💦 Once that was done I made sure I hydrated them and put them in my dome so that I could keep up the humidity around my plant. I probably won’t need to water this plant until its removed from the dome.

I’m taking a chance propagating them together as one of them may not root, but we’ll see.

Stick around for updates.

What other plant would you like to see me propagate?

Today I’m going to turn this ordinary plant into something you’ve probably never seen before. [Music] First step, pick out the tallest, strongest cutings. Now for my favorite part, mix up the ultimate soil blend. [Music] Next, fill a small pot with the soil. And now, here’s where it gets fun. Three cutings braided into one magical plant. Shape it up and hydrate it. [Applause] And there you have it. Proof that if you can dream it, you can do it.

  1. You monster.

I love this. ( And just think about the rooting hormone you didn't have to use …and put back in the bottle.)

  2. Why does everyone want to hear thing directly into a microphone???? Its engaging!!!! Content that i would normally find entertaining is instead stressful to watch.

  3. Mine flowered, I cut it off but now it needs constant water or the leaves just wilt. Do I need to repot?
