I am looking for options for hedges with a narrow and upright growing habit along my back fence in a dropped garden bed. I'm concerned about a portion of the fence which only has about 30-35 cm spacing. I found the Straight and Narrow Lillipillies which may work but wanted some advice from someone who's done it before. The area is on the south side of the property getting about 4-5 hours of sun a day.

I am a novice gardener and want to avoid anything that can damage the fence or create a nuisance for neighbours.

You might have more luck putting up a wire frame and grow a climber.
As the first commenter said, you would be better putting up a trellis of some sort and growing a Vine.
