The Early Years team at Whitefield Children’s Centre has been working with volunteers to transform its outdoor garden into a play area.
Until now, the overgrown garden had been unsuitable for use, leaving the centre reliant on indoor facilities.
Samantha McClaren, Early Years team manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring this area back into use.
“We now have a safe, accessible space and we could not have achieved this so quickly without the support of the volunteers and local businesses, who worked hard throughout the day to get this done.
“We are grateful to them, and excited to now be able to offer outdoor play activities to children and families.”
Sharon Walton contacted Sunnywood Project, who helped her reach out to local construction consultancy Turner and Townsend.
A team from Turner and Townsend volunteered on the project as part of their Corporate Responsibility Day, clearing the area, removing unsafe equipment, and cutting back overgrown weeds.
In the process, they discovered a hidden path which had been buried in the undergrowth.
Diggers in Radcliffe also supported the project by providing power tools.
The area was cleared in a single day, creating a safe space where children can play, ride bikes, and take part in outdoor activities linked to the centre’s sessions.
