In my past experiences, African violets would burn when exposed to direct sun. But my current plants are getting sunshine from being a bit over 2 feet away from a south facing window and seem to be flourishing?

It might depend on the time of day for the sunlight and also the windows too. I have plants including African Violets in windows that receive direct sunlight with no damage of leaf burn.

  2. Most plants will thrive in very high light conditions. You do have to be careful to acclimate them slowly to brighter light. With the surface treatments of most modern windows, “direct” light through a window isn’t *that* strong anyway.
