what is happening???!!! i've been severely neglecting this tank of a houseplant for the better part of a decade. i dumped out the dregs of a bottled water for recycling and noticed this delicate young leaf. how could this possibly happen? I don't own any plants that look like this, and the zz never goes outside. what do i do to help it survive? the zz is in low light and is very leggy, and i water it with reckless abandon. Sometimes twice a month, sometimes once every few months. Sometimes with a full watering can and diluted fertilizer, sometimes with water bottle backwash.

This is so funny I’m sorry I have no advice hahaha
Probably been sitting in the soil.
It’s a miracle birth.
Its a miracle
oh this is funny funny
When a mommy plant loves a daddy plant very much…..
Did your friends prank you with putting seeds in there or something? Never seen this happen before, especially in the conditions that poor zz is in.
I love it
My husband collects Alocasias and we get free bonus ones popping up all the time because of corms we’ve missed in recycled potting mix.
Have you repotted or changed the soil recently?
Wow lol this is a first for me
Lol there was probably a corm in the soil that decided the conditions were just right to emerge. I recycle soil between my plants and I have a bunch of alocasias, happens to me all the time
That’s the craziest bonus I’ve seen on this subreddit!! Hell yeah!
Who’s dat baby daddy?
Lucy!!! You have some esplaining to do!!!

alocasia via immaculate conception is crazyyyyy
lol wtfff. Maybe a corm was in the soil.. and just now decided today was its day 🤣
An alocasia corm got into the soil somehow
Alocasia can be very weedy: fought bulbils might have broken of a plant and somehow made their way to their close relative!
IMMACULATE PLANTCEPTION!
Congrats on the Immaculate Cormception!
The way you’ve described your plant care is 10/10
I have no advice 0/10
corm stowaway in the soil!!!
A miracle baby… Alocesus
Name it Jesus.
There’ll be a Dr Phil episode about this
Corms come in enough sizes that they’re known in the community as little travelers because nurseries/people will recycle soil mediums when repotting, so a tiny corm broken off goes through the sifter like nothing, gets planted with a snake plant or zz (in your case) and will either grow with the new plant or just lays dormant for years (like yours) because it wasn’t in the right spot.
Somehow, you must’ve been watering it close enough for it to hydrate and grow. I have a spider plant that was chilling outside for a majority of this year and a month ago, an alocasia popped up. Just like yours lol
Is this one of those miraculous plants that grant wishes or heal mortal wounds that they talk about in fairytales?
Bonus baby! Love it 😍
Hahahaha
This happened to me once! Turns out there was a tuber in the soil my philodendron brasil came in and it decided to grow after a while lol
