GEORGETOWN, Del. — How did your garden fare this summer? The Sussex County Master Gardener’s demonstration garden did fantastically. We invite the public to see all of the lovely changes!
All are welcome to the free Sussex County Master Gardener Open House and plant sale on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the demonstration or teaching garden located behind the University of Delaware Carvel Center on 16483 County Seat Highway in Georgetown, located a quarter-mile west of Sussex Tech High School.
Every year, the open house features new gardens and topics to explore, and 2025 is no different!
Master Gardeners will be stationed within the one-acre garden to answer gardening questions. Featured specialty gardens focus on a particular type of plant or growing conditions. Come armed with questions about your own garden, or bring in plant samples!
Visit the Open House website for a full schedule of mini workshops, children’s activities and other highlights: http://www.udel.edu/0012081
Master Gardeners love when children visit the garden. Each child who participates in any activity will receive a ticket for a free ice cream cone from the Frozen Farmer! Other highlights include vertical gardening, containers for fall, patio and balcony gardening, hanging baskets, multiple raised beds and vegetable and pollinator containers! Check out the latest tools and innovations that make gardening smart and easy!
It’s a perfect venue for a family fun day. Bring your camera! From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., enjoy the menus of two food trucks, the Frozen Farmer and La Pinkeria. Fall is a great time for planting. Come and get inspired by what you see in the garden. Many are available at the fall plant sale. The open house is a rain-or-shine, free event.
Master Gardeners are working volunteers and are supported by Delaware Cooperative Extension through the University of Delaware and Delaware State University Extension offices. These workshops are brought to you by the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension, a service of the UD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources — a land-grant institution. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. If you have special needs that need to be accommodated, please contact the office two weeks prior to the event.
