Council tenants and leaseholders from across the borough are celebrating their awards following two annual competitions. The tenant garden competition, run by Charnwood Borough Council, saw 38 entries across eight different categories, and showcased gardens of all shapes and sizes.
The gardens were judged by councillors Jennifer Tillotson and Anne Gray for the third year in a row, and both were impressed by the incredible gardens on display, which highlight how much hard work and dedication goes into each one. High street vouchers were awarded to the winners and runners-up during the event at Loughborough Town Hall on September 11.
The event also saw the return of the creative competition for its second year, which asked for tenants of all ages to send in their best creative works – from photography, arts and crafts, creative writing and more. With high street vouchers up for grabs to the winners, the competition received 26 brilliant entries.
The awards were handed out by the Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor David Northage. Councillor Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for housing, economic development, regeneration and town centres, judged both competitions and attended the event.
She said: “Thank you to all entrants of both competitions for taking part and showcasing your talents with us. You should all feel proud of your achievements. Our annual gardening competition has been held for 16 years and it never ceases to amaze me the results achieved through the passion and hard work of our tenants to make their gardens and communities look so special.
“The return of the creative competition awards, launched in our tenant magazine, saw a large increase in entries, and the quality of the works submitted was great to see. We hope that this competition will continue to grow for years to come. Congratulations to all the award winners and thank you to everyone who entered both competitions. We look forward to receiving your applications next year.”
